Bi-Weekly Salary: Level I: $1,707.99- $2,041.21 Level II: $1,887.15- $2,255.32

Examinations: Appraisal (Weight 100%): Review of application material for training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the work based on any combination of the following:  Investigation, oral exam and rating of application.

Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.

Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:

Level I:

Registration with an approved organization qualified to certify individuals as alcohol and drug counselors pursuant to California Code of Regulations (CCR) Chapter 8, Title 9, Section 13035(a), AND completion of 155 documented hours of formal Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) classroom education, AND completion of 160 hours of supervised AOD training.

Level II:

Certification as an alcohol or substance abuse counselor from an approved organization qualified to certify individuals as alcohol and drug counselors pursuant to California Code of Regulations (CCR) Chapter 8, Title 9, Section 13035(a). AND One (1) year experience in an alcohol or drug program providing recovery planning, group and/or individual services.

Additional Requirements:

Both Level I/II

Volunteer experience may be qualifying if confirmed in writing from a recognized organization.

Dependent upon assignment, applicants may be required to pass an extensive background investigation and be fingerprinted. Disqualification for felony, misdemeanor, and traffic offenses will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

 

A valid California Class C Driver's License is required

* Verification of 155 documented hours of formal Alcohol and Other Drugs classroom education

A background investigation is required of candidates who wish to be considered for correctional medicine assignments. Felony convictions are disqualifying, and some misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying. 

Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.

This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made at Kern County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Department. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission. Candidates are encouraged to indicate acceptable geographical locations in which they would accept employment on their application form. Candidates MUST be willing to travel to these locations (areas/district offices).
