Job Description
An integral member of the Labor & Delivery and Surgical Team who will demonstrate knowledge of all aspects of asepsis and technique necessary to provide a safe surgical environment for the patient and other members of the Surgical Team. Under the supervision of the RN the ORT assists the Registered Nurse in caring for selected group of patients. Assemble instruments, supplies, room equipment and furniture in rooms in advance, to open and set up. Assist it draping of patient. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and the rest of the team. Performs other related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
For Appointment to Level I
1. Documented designation of Grandfathered status as a Surgical Technologist; or
2. Completion of an appropriate training program for Surgical Technologists in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps; or
3. Service in the federal government to the extent that the individual performed duties related to the practice of Surgical Technology.
For Appointment to Level II
1. Hold and maintain a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
Note: Effective January 1, 2015, all newly hired incumbents to the title of Surgical Technologist must hold and maintain a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential and be assigned at Level II. In addition, any employee who functions as a Surgical Technologist will be required to annually complete fifteen (15) hours of continuing education in order to remain qualified to perform the functions of a Surgical Technologist at an HHC facility
