Director of Operations Job/Position Summary:

The Director of Operations for the Fathom Hartland (Additive Manufacturing) facility will be responsible for leading a cross-functional team of engineering, purchasing and production professionals to drive and deliver on our aggressive growth plan by meeting safety, quality, on-time delivery, morale, and margin targets and providing an exceptional customer experience. This role will put safety first while driving a continuous improvement culture and building strong employee engagement.

Director of Operations Primary Responsibilities:

Safety and Quality

  • Promotes and maintains a Zero-Harm working environment. Sets the standard for a safety-first workplace.
  • Follows all company safety policies and procedures and attends all safety training related to the job.
  • Oversees processes and infrastructure in accordance with maintaining ISO9001 certification standards.
  • Drive significant yield and cost of quality improvements through detailed analysis of non-conformances along with implementing clearly defined action plans to promote improvement.

Leadership

  • Selects, develops, coaches talent, creates a sense of team across the operation, focused on talent retention and engagement.
  • Develops standards of team performance and sets annual performance goals aligned with business objectives. Evaluates and ensures the quality and accuracy of employees' work product and that the team meets performance goals within designated time frame.
  • Drives crystal clear communications across operations through daily, weekly, and monthly mechanisms.
  • Demonstrates commitment to FATHOM’s Core Values by leading, acting and behaving in a manner consistent with these values.

Operations (Additive Manufacturing)

  • Directs and leads teams to exceed customer expectations with regard to safety, quality and delivery with special attention to the business unit's strategic accounts.
  • Track, report, analyze, and adjust to key performance indicators on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Serve as a key leader in the development of the FATHOM business system and encourages, implements, or recommends to the management team growth or capital expenditures and opportunities for an improved customer experience.
  • Perform detailed root cause analysis and prescribe appropriate counter-measures when performance indicators are off-track.
  • Creates and manages operations budget as defined annually. Manage cost of goods, expense and labor budgets to established guidelines and budget.
  • Offers expertise in additive manufacturing technologies, assisting with solutions and acting as an internal resource to FATHOM employees.
  • Drives continual process improvements and implements best practices to manage team and projects effectively.
  • Pro-actively solves customer facing issues across all functions.
  • Participates and supports in company planning and development meetings/activities as needed.
  • Successfully partners with key stakeholders across the company including acting as a resource to the sales team on technical questions, sales samples and general account support.
  • Recommend and advocate cross-functional strategies to support growth and improve the customer experience to management where necessary.
Director of Operations Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or manufacturing, MBA preferred.
  • 10 years' experience in operations or production environment in management role; of which at least 5 years must be in an ISO-certified environment.
  • Experience in a contract manufacturing or job shop environment is desired.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience with ERP implementation.
  • Preferred experience with Additive Manufacturing.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills required. Must have good computer skills and be able to utilize standard office applications as well as other programs as may be required to properly conduct this position.

Director of Operations Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong leadership, planning, team-building, communication, and execution skills required.
  • Demonstrated success driving change resulting in improvements in safety, quality on-time delivery, margin, and customer satisfaction.
  • Strong business acumen and is able to drive Hartland initiatives in alignment with business objectives.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, working on multiple initiatives that deliver business results. Consistently acts with a sense of urgency.
  • Builds relationships and establishes trust and credibility with key stakeholders. Able to positively impact and influence others.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Knowledge of Additive Manufacturing is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success implementing continuous improvement principles and understanding of Lean tools, Toyota Production System and methodologies such as: A3 Development and Management, Process Flow Mapping, Value Stream Mapping, 5S/Visual Factory, TPM, SMED, Standard Work, Process Problem Solving, Built In Quality, Just In Time, Kaizen/Continuous Improvement, Hoshin Kanri (SD, X Matrix), and Lean ROI.
