The Materials and Process Group is open to consider a broad range of experience including Associate, Mid-Level, or Senior Materials, Processes and Thermal Test Engineers. The Materials and Process Group in El Segundo develops, provides and maintains technical competency and integrity in the definition, evaluation, analysis, management, selection and control of materials, processes, and parts. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and execution of material characterization test plans for new designs. The ideal candidate has a background with materials science and experience with thermal and material characterization data acquisition, data analysis, vacuum systems, environmental testing, and troubleshooting. The successful candidate for this position should also have meticulous attention to detail and an ability to develop new skills. Position Responsibilities: * Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products * Leads production or produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes * Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations * Promotes standardization across business activities * Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs * Leads or Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements * Integrates new technologies as appropriate * Conducts analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts or processes * Maintain/operates thermal laboratory equipment * Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements * Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements * Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. TS/SCI clearance Post-Start is required. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): * Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry * 2+ years of experience with data acquisition systems and software (i.e. LabView) * 2+ years of experience creating and documenting test plans/procedures, executing tests, analyzing results, and/or creating test reports * 2+ years of experience working in laboratory environment * Experience in a previous role where meticulous attention to details, with emphasis on accuracy and quality was paramount Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): * 4+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience * 7+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience * Active TS/SCI clearance * Background in Materials Science and Engineering * Technical writing/communication skills * Project Management experience * Experience conducting thermal testing (Thermal Chambers, Cryostat) * Experience working in an interdisciplinary team to identify and implement solutions for complex testing and characterization efforts * Experience with cryogenic testing * Knowledge of material thermal properties Typical Education/Experience: Associate (Level 2): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Mid-Level (Level 3) Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Senior (Level 4) Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Relocation: Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position.
