Duties * Serve as Supervisory Police Officer and Commander, Patrol Division under the direction of the Chief of Police. * Conduct supervisory operational reviews of law enforcement activities to ensure standards and all required equipment is issued and maintained properly. * Identify developmental and training needs of employees. * Coordinate emergency responses between assigned patrol officers, fire, and other emergency units in order to respond to calls concerning reports of violations or complaints. * Arrest/apprehend or directs the arrest/apprehension of violators. * Identify problem areas and makes necessary changes in policies and procedures to correct deficiencies. Requirements Conditions of Employment * Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. * Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Secret security clearance. * Must successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical examinations (physical, emotional and mental stability) required by Federal Law and the Office of Safety and Occupational Health Administration set forth in AR 190-56. * Pass annual physical agility test requirements per AR 190-56. * Drug testing position * The position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. * Be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, and tear gas. * State certification, if required, for radar and breathalyzer operations. * Maintain requirements of Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW AR 190-56. * Must successfully complete reoccurring CPR certification and First Aid training. * Must participate in regularly scheduled training in the techniques of use of deadly force, counter-terrorism, first aid, firearms, actuating anti-vehicle barriers, search and seizure, security operations and enforcement. * Good eye/hand coordination is required to operate radios and security weapons and equipment. * Must be in sufficient physical condition to assist in searching vehicles and persons and restraining persons. * Work both inside and outside with exposure to inclement weather. * Subject to verbal abuse and possible injury or death. * Shift work is required. * Rotating shifts are required. * Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime. * A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed. * Please see "Other Requirements" Qualifications Who May Apply: Only applicants who meet one of the employment authority categories below are eligible to apply for this job. For this position, at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the second lower level (GS-09) is creditable for in-service applicants. However, for outside applicants (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service), at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level is required (GS-10). * Written Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09 or 10).
