Duties * Serves as a training officer for the Police Force at a DLA site. * Ensure Police Officers are fully trained and capable of accomplishing the agency's mission. * Prepares long range plans for the scheduling of training activities and service schools within the local and federal law enforcement community. * Monitors and evaluates the Police training program to assess effectiveness, applicability and compliance with policies, procedures, laws and current Court decisions. * Review and evaluate formal and informal training courses, seminars, and on-the-job training. * Provides instruction for: firearms, antiterrorism ops, use of force guideline/applications, emergency vehicle operation, non-lethal weapons/munitions, defensive tactics, active shooter training/instruction, incident command response certification. Travel to/from is at the candidate's expense. * Bargaining Unit Status: Yes * Licenses Required: Valid State Driver License Qualifications To qualify for a Police Officer (Instructor) your resume and supporting documentation must support: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-09 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: * Conducting a variety of law enforcement training classes. * Developing lesson/training plans pertaining to law enforcement. * Monitoring the effectiveness of a training program. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level. Additional information PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires considerable physical exertion involving walking, bending, running or prolonged standing and occasional climbing and working in stressful situations. Individual must be medically qualified on an annual basis. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed inside of facilities and vehicles as well as outdoors in inclement weather, well-lighted and dark areas, and with friendly and hostile people. Possible exposure to high risk and danger when confronting employee/suspects involving assault, breach of peace and more serious crimes. Employees may be required to use personal protective clothing or gear, such as respirators, coats, safety shoes, goggles, hearing protection and/or gloves.
