In this role, you'll be a linchpin in our dynamic team, supporting production and leading projects from concept through execution. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring the seamless operation of our robotic systems and process health, with occasional remote support over weekends when necessary.

  • Innovative Design: Dedicate 10-15% of your time to mechanical and electrical design using tools like SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD, and Visio. You'll bring your designs to life with rapid prototypes created using our in-house 3D printers.

  • Robust Equipment Maintenance: Spend 50-75% of your time ensuring the uptime of our equipment and robotic cells. You'll monitor and maintain process health, collaborate with operators to refine methods, and drive innovations that reduce costs, cycle times, and product variations while enhancing safety and ergonomics.

What YOU Will Do:

  • Provides technical recommendations and solutions by investigating, evaluating, interfacing with stakeholders, troubleshooting and responding to maintenance/operator questions related to complex equipment. Collaboratively shares learning with peers.

  • Responsible for working with department technicians to maintain and repair robotic cells and perform improvements to them.

  • Work with project managers to define and design future robotic cells to expand department capacity over five years.

  • Actively monitor key performance indicators pertaining to both product and process parameters. Use RRCA and other troubleshooting methodology to resolve product quality issues or process upset events.

  • Propose and manage large projects (>$1M) at the moderate to complex level; effectively manage contractors and equipment and materials vendors. Ability to work independently and autonomously on complex projects and evaluate his/her work and exercise judgment.

  • Creates, reviews, revises, maintains, and organizes equipment documents and drawings for complex equipment and proprietary hardware designs.

  • Participates on or leads cross-functional teams to integrate the activities of multiple engineering disciplines, mechanics, and operators.

  • Interface with site Distributed Control System and suggest improvements in logic. 

  • Ensure standard operating procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and Engineering Forms (EFs) are thorough, accurate, effective, and up to date.

  • Take an active role in meeting department and site Lean Manufacturing requirements.

  • Maintain a high commitment to quality, thoroughness, and efficiency in all work aspects.

  • Observe and follow all quality, environmental, health and safety procedures.

  • Effectively interact and communicate with variety of backgrounds (machine operators, technicians, engineers, production control analysts, contractors, etc.)

  • Clearly communicate department and individual objectives and track/communicate progress to plan

  • Comply with all other Collins Aerospace policies and procedures.

  • Travel < 5% as needed

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here:  https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

  • Knowledge of process control basics

  • Familiarity with Fanuc robotics

  • Experience working with CAD/AutoCAD and NX or SolidWorks

  • Experience with data mining using systems such as SQL/Python/Minitab

  • Mechanical Engineering Design experience

  • Understanding of electrical circuits and automation components.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Mechanical or Automation and Controls Engineering highly preferred

  • Experience with PLCs and/or Distributed Control Systems

  • Familiarity with Studio 5000

  • Design and implementation of robotic cells

  • Programming of PLCs (cradle to grave)

  • Programming of Fanuc robots (cradle to grave)

  • Vision systems setup, calibration, and adjustments.

  • Design of mechanical structures / devices. (cradle to grave)

  • FEA analysis.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
