What You Will Do:

As a Development Analyst , you will be responsible for providing analytical sample processing and data review to support SOS SM Services initiatives. The incumbent uses a variety of analytical techniques and wet chemistry to process oil, fuel, and source water and/or coolant samples submitted by customers. Engineers and dealers use results to manager equipment preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Collaborate across all shifts to provide a smooth transition of data review and processing to meet daily turnaround times.
  • Leveraging a variety of analytical and wet chemistry techniques to process oil, fuel, and coolant samples from all heavy equipment manufacturers across the globe.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Adhering to all quality assurance and safety standards.
  • Daily tasks may include the following: Sample Prep and Handling (receipt to disposal), Material Inspection, Data review and LIMS transfer, Viscosity Analysis, FTIR Analysis, Gas Chromatography, Titrations, ICP Analysis, Instrument Troubleshooting, Preparation of Reagents and Standards, daily instrument validation.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.
What You Have:
  • Planning (Tactical & Strategic): Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan. Contributes to short-term operational plans. Anticipates and adapts to plan changes. Monitors progress of work against plan as required to meet objectives. Reports variances and makes agreed-upon corrections. Under guidance, develops tactical plan for own direct responsibility.
  • Quality Management: Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization. Utilizes quality indicators relevant to own unit or function. Adheres to organizational quality management processes and practices. Applies key aspects of continuous improvement processes and evaluates impact on quality. Uses quality evaluation tools and techniques such as walkthroughs and inspections. Works with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Delivers helpful feedback that focuses on behaviors without offending the recipient. Listens to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness. Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work. Avoids technical jargon when inappropriate. Looks for and considers non-verbal cues from individuals and groups.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Knowledge of successful approaches and techniques for dealing with change; ability to adapt to a changing environment and be comfortable with change. Adjusts to new or changing assignments, processes, and people. Demonstrates willingness to listen to other opinions. Provides examples of shifting from task to task.   • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation. Explains basic concepts of time and priority management. Seeks guidance in detecting and addressing priority conflicts. States own business priorities. Describes team or unit priorities.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. Explains the value of a disciplined approach to problem solving. Describes problem reporting and escalation practices. Utilizes accepted procedures for problem analysis and resolution. Identifies key aspects of problem-solving techniques used in own area.
  • Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS): Knowledge of a specific laboratory information management system and its purpose and capabilities; ability to use the system to improve lab productivity and efficiency by monitoring experiments, laboratory workflows, and instruments. Understands the functions and applications of LIMS. Lists and compares different LIMS vendors available in the market. Explains the benefits and challenges of using LIMS. Cites the examples of LIMS use cases as applied in one's organization.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and techniques of root cause analysis (RCA); ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of undesirable consequences in a manufacturing environment and the changes needed to prevent recurrences. Explains the rationale for finding and resolving the real cause of a problem rather than simply continuing to deal with the symptoms. Describes the basic steps in an approach to root cause analysis (RCA). Gives examples of problems that were resolved through root cause analysis. Defines the terms 'Fixes that Fail structure' and 'Addiction structure'.
What Will Set You Apart:
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office 365 products.
  • Prior laboratory experience.
  • Previous experience working within a Quality Management System (QMS); i.e., maintaining quality procedures, document control, continuous improvement.
