Job Description:
The Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired works to help blind and visually impaired Nebraskans achieve full and rewarding lives through independent living skills and assisting with finding employment in Nebraska and across the country. Incumbent will assist counselors in their work with clients by managing daily office operations, maintaining client records, scheduling appointments, and providing administrative support. Additionally, they will have direct interactions with clients, assisting with their needs and facilitating communication between them and their counselors. They will also be assigned to complete tasks in the field as needed to support the counselors and ensure that clients receive timely and effective services. Their organizational skills, attention to detail, and dedication to client success are essential in fostering a supportive and efficient environment.

Job duties

• Maintain various records and files accurately, assist counselors with creating purchase authorizations, locating bids, and generating and submitting authorization requests.

• Assist clients with transportation needs, including arranging transportation and driving clients to meetings, appointments, or programs. Manage driver schedules, appointments, and car maintenance for the entire office, including scheduling vehicles for maintenance checks and reserving vehicles for various programs and daily usage by staff.

• Read materials for visually impaired staff and clients, and provide entry level training to clients as per the direction of a counselor/supervisor.

• Maintain inventory of office and client supplies.

• Participate in agency activities and special programs, and call new referrals to complete assessments, providing thorough information for counselors before the first meeting.

• Provide information about the purpose, nature, and scope of available services to persons with disabilities, service providers, vendors, and the general public.

• Demonstrate timeliness and efficiency in completing assigned tasks and communicate effectively with office staff to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.

• Collaborate with the office supervisor to develop a system for managing intake and referrals for the Omaha office.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Experience providing coaching or training to individuals with visual impairment or other disability in a community organization or other area of social services delivery; OR post high school coursework/training in: social work, counseling/guidance, psychology, sociology, human development, education or related area.

Preferred Qualifications: Strong ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks and projects efficiently. Adaptable to change and flexible in dynamic environments. Reliable and dependable. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the agency. Effective conflict resolution skills. Excellent communication skills with both staff and customers. Strong problem-solving abilities to address most issues independently.

Other: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation. Accommodations may be available for those with disabilities. Overnight travel may be required 1-2 times per year for all-staff statewide meetings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficient in using Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience in using case management system(s).
