Summary:

The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (PA or NP), under the supervision of a physician, serves as a primary medical care provider. The PA or NP diagnoses and treats acute and chronic disease and provides preventive care and health education as well as performs health screenings. The PA or NP participates in quality assessment of the work of the health center, collaborates with the health care team and serves as a resource to the nurses and medical assistants.

This is a temporary and part-time role. This role is needed to cover the following shifts:


Start time: 8 am

End time: 8 pm

Hours per week: 22-24

Shift: yes, Days Tuesday and Thursday but alternate times may be available if better ( would like up to 24 hours total per week)

Avg Patients per hour:2-3

Lunch timeframe:12-1 or 1-2 and 5-6 if Tuesday or Thursday

Is lunch paid or unpaid : unpaid


Essential Functions:

Performs history and physical examinations, formulation of care plans, ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests and provides education to students, blood draws, injections;

Prescribes medication or other forms of treatment, inhalation therapy or related therapeutic procedures;

Document clinical encounters via an EMR clearly, precisely and in a timely manner;

Follows established protocols and consults with supervising physician when appropriate;

Provides medical advice and information to students during each visit to ensure understanding of their condition and treatment;

Consults with specialist or outside providers in regard to student information and treatment;

Refers students to emergency services or specialty providers when appropriate;

Collaborates with other departments on campus and participates in wellness-related programs and activities;

Follows confidentiality /FERPA guidelines and collaborates with the College administration on cases involving student medical situations when needed.


Qualifications:

Certificate of Registration as Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (For Physician Assistant - Bachelor's degree and graduation from Physician Asst. training program certified by the Board of Registration of Physician Assistants and passing of the certifying examination of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants).

Massachusetts and Federal DEA certificates required.

Prior experience in primary care, particularly in student health is highly desirable.

Previous triage experience for acute medical issues is preferred.

Excellent interpersonal skills to include effective interviewing and counseling skills.

Must be able to use tact, discretion, and sensitivity in patient interactions

Excellent written and oral communication skills
