The Safety Coordinator with Lineman Experience will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety protocols and procedures across all utility operations. This role requires a deep understanding of the unique hazards associated with lineman work, including high-voltage electrical systems. The successful candidate will work closely with field teams to promote a culture of safety, conduct training, and ensure compliance with all safety regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Safety Program Development: Develop and maintain comprehensive safety programs tailored to the specific needs of linemen and utility operations. Update and refine safety protocols as needed.
- Training and Education: Conduct regular safety training sessions for linemen and other field personnel, covering topics such as electrical safety, fall protection, and emergency response. Ensure all employees are trained in accordance with OSHA and company standards.
- Safety Inspections: Perform regular job site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols. Address any safety concerns immediately and implement corrective actions.
- Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into any safety incidents or near-misses. Analyze root causes and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences. Prepare detailed incident reports and share findings with management.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and other relevant safety regulations. Keep up-to-date with changes in safety laws and regulations that may affect company operations.
- Safety Equipment Management: Oversee the selection, maintenance, and use of safety equipment, including PPE, fall protection systems, and electrical testing devices. Ensure that all equipment is in good working order and readily available.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments for new projects and tasks, particularly those involving linemen working on live electrical systems. Implement appropriate safety measures based on the assessed risks.
- Safety Culture Promotion: Promote a strong safety culture within the company by leading by example, encouraging safe work practices, and recognizing employees who demonstrate a commitment to safety.
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans for job sites. Conduct drills and ensure all personnel are prepared for emergencies, including electrical accidents and severe weather events.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Additional training in occupational health and safety is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a journeyman lineman, with 5 years in a safety-related role. Experience in utility operations is highly preferred.
- Certifications:
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification, NFPA 70E certification, and CPR/First Aid certification are required. Certification as a Safety Professional (CSP) or similar is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety standards and best practices. Excellent communication and training skills. Ability to conduct thorough safety audits and investigations.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform field inspections, which may require climbing, working at heights, and exposure to various weather conditions.
Other Requirements:
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Willingness to travel to different job sites as needed.
