The Health Advocate Nurse provides whole person health promotion, disease prevention education, and assistance in accessing health care services for all Stone Mountain Park employees. The major job responsibilities of the Health Advocate Nurse are:

  • the integration of faith and health,
  • to provide health and wellness education,
  • to provide personal health and wellness counseling,
  • to act as a referral agent,
  • to provide support group development, when needed,
  • to cultivate the partnership of volunteers, and
  • to act as a health advocate.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Additional duties may be assigned. Management retains the discretion to change or add to the duties of this position.

  • Discuss health issues and concerns with Park employees and assess their needs.
  • Promote an understanding of the relationship between lifestyles, attitudes, and well-being through activities such as classes, health fairs, personal counseling, and educational materials.
  • Provide and document services rendered to all employees and referrals to health care services and resources.
  • Develop community relationships/contacts to identify and secure resources and services appropriate to the needs of Park employees.
  • Develop or coordinate classes/seminars on health maintenance, disease prevention, and early disease detection through screenings.
  • Development of support groups, as needed.
  • Collaborate with community leaders and agencies to facilitate effective working relationships and to identify new resources.
  • Maintain current knowledge on nursing and health care issues, as well as community health care resources.
  • Coordinate volunteers who assist in meeting the goals of the program.
  • Maintain records of activities to assure adherence to and periodic evaluation of the program.
  • Assist with HR projects and events, as needed.
  • Educate employees on the Thriving Lives program and assist employees as needed in the completion of the application.
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with the Thriving Lives Coordinator.
  • Attend weekly Thriving Lives committee meetings, when requested.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Must understand, read, write and speak the English language.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must have the ability to work days, nights, weekdays, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must be skilled in operating a variety of medical equipment and able to troubleshoot problems.
  • Must be knowledgeable of and compliant with the Georgia Nurse Practice Act.
  • Must show evidence of self-direction and excellent communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Must have basic computer skills and a willingness to learn additional skills.
  • Must have a vehicle that can be used during work hours as needed.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical experience required as a licensed registered nurse, preferably from a home health, public health, clinic, psychiatric/chemical dependency, physician office, or a community health setting.
  • Completion of the Westberg Institute’s Foundations of Faith Community Nursing course (Westberg Institute’s curriculum preferred through the Spiritual Care Association) within one year from the date of hire.
  • Knowledge of health promotion, whole person health philosophy, as well as health services and resources in the community.
  • Knowledge of adult education principles with some teaching experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Georgia.
