Are you a cat lover that's interested in either a part or full-time position caring for homeless cats?


Gifford Cat Shelter - the first free-roam, no-kill shelter in the country - seeks staff who thrive on giving all animals within their care the best possible care their resources permit, who will show compassion and understanding to every animal and person who comes their way, and who will perform tasks in an effective and efficient manner.


Major Responsibilities

  • Perform cat care duties such as preparing food, feeding, and providing water, cleaning and disinfecting cat areas, washing litter and food pans, sweeping and mopping floors, washing and sweeping debris from walls, beds and any other areas
  • Meet and greet and interface with people visiting the shelter whether it be to visit the cats or for adoption. Introduce cats to the public and provide information regarding licensing, vaccinations, pet-owner responsibilities, spaying, neutering and adoptions, collect license, redemption and adoption fees
  • Responsible for pet ownership and for matching the cats to potential owners. Receive cats to be admitted for shelter care and is responsible for their proper identification and release animals to their owners as directed by shelter manager
  • Monitor sick, quarantined, and injured cats and observe them for unusual physical and behavioral conditions, medicate if necessary. Separate and control and cats that are not getting along; assist the veterinarian or staff with vaccinations and minor medical treatments; keep a record on the disposition of animals, perform a daily count of animals and report and condition or inconsistencies to the supervisor or veterinarian as appropriate
  • Complete various records and forms such as medical cards, logs of controlled medication dispensed, daily activity sheets, maintain a log and inventory of food and other animal supply needs


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to care for both healthy and sick cats
  • Must be able to lift, move, or carry cats or objects weighing up to 40 lbs., and use strong chemicals for disinfecting kennels
  • Seeking part and full-time attendants
  • Must have a passion for cats
