SUPERVISED BY: Coordinator of Clinical Day Programs/North Star

JOB SUMMARY

The mental health counselor is a valued clinical team member, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work. They will carry out assignments relating to the application and facilitating therapeutic treatment of children and families referred to the intensive outpatient North Star Program, ensuring that patients receive culturally competent care. The MHC works in a daily group milieu under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The MHC is responsible to the Coordinator of Clinical Day Programs.
The MHC is expected to function as a member of a clinical team, to carry out assignments relating to application, intake, diagnosis and treatment of children and families referred to the clinic, under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Operations.
The MHC is expected to maintain clinical records, to complete clinical documents in a timely manner; electronic health record schedules, including progress notes, daily point sheets, and behavioral graphs.
The MHC participates in supervision, staff meetings, and psychiatry rounds.
The MHC performs, as part of a team, group milieu management, including planning, preparing and leading clinical groups, direct supervision of clients, crisis intervention, addressing behavioral concerns, and maintaining the program facility as needed
The MHC provides administrative support and case management such as filing, setting up transportation, speaking with collateral contacts, copying materials.
The MHC is responsible for other jobs/ special projects that may be assigned by the Director of Clinical Operations or Executive Leadership.
Service as program driver based on need and acquired licensure.

QUALIFICATIONS/LICENSURE

Bachelor’s degree required.
Prior experience in human services, mental health or education field.
Experience with children with emotional and behavioral difficulties preferred.
Public Service License, with a minimum of a “V” endorsement, when performing task as program driver.
The MHC is not credentialed, he/she must work in conjunction with the North Star Clinician, under the supervision of a licensed clinician in evaluation and treatment planning and in carrying out treatment plans.
