Reports to: Cath Lab Manager/Director Location: Premier Surgical Center, LLC.


Position Summary:


The Cardiac Cath Lab PACU Registered Nurse (PACU RN) is responsible for providing high-quality post-anesthesia care to patients recovering from cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures. The PACU RN monitors patients’ vital signs, manages pain, and ensures a smooth recovery process. This role requires strong clinical skills, the ability to assess and respond to patient needs, and effective communication with the healthcare team.


Post-Procedure Patient Care:

  • Receive patients from the cath lab and conduct thorough assessments, including monitoring vital signs, ECG, and hemodynamic status.
  • Provide appropriate pain management and administer medications as prescribed.
  • Monitor patients for any signs of complications or adverse reactions and respond promptly to emergencies.


Patient Assessment and Monitoring:

  • Continuously assess patients’ physical and emotional status during the recovery period.
  • Perform frequent assessments, including neurological checks, and document findings accurately.
  • Ensure patients are stable before discharge or transfer to another unit.
  • Patient Education and Discharge Planning:
  • Educate patients and their families about post-procedural care, medications, and follow-up instructions.
  • Prepare discharge instructions and ensure patients understand their care plan.
  • Coordinate with case management and other healthcare providers to arrange follow-up care as needed.


Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work collaboratively with the cath lab team, including physicians, technicians, and other nurses.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives.


Education:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (ADN/BSN) from an accredited nursing program.


Certification and Licensure:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Missouri
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) preferred.


Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a PACU, critical care, or cardiac care setting.
  • Previous experience in a cardiac catheterization lab or post-anesthesia care unit preferred.


Skills:

  • Strong clinical skills in post-anesthesia and cardiovascular nursing.
  • Ability to assess and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with monitoring equipment and electronic health records (EHR).


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting and moving heavy equipment and patients.
  • Manual dexterity to handle instruments and operate equipment.
