This role will serve as the primary liaison between our company and government agencies, ensuring full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary liaison between the company and government agencies such as TCEQ and EPA.
- Oversee and manage all compliance-related activities, ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations and standards.
- Develop, implement, and monitor compliance programs to ensure ongoing adherence to industry regulations.
- Respond to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and bid proposals, ensuring compliance requirements are met.
- Lead efforts to achieve and maintain ISO certification, specifically in the chemical industry, ensuring all processes and procedures are in line with ISO standards.
- Coordinate with internal departments to ensure all compliance requirements are understood and met.
- Provide guidance and support to the organization on compliance-related matters.
- Prepare and present compliance reports to senior management and regulatory bodies as required.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in compliance management.
- Administering equipment and environmental sampling programs.
- Determining waste reduction and recycling opportunities.
- Designing, developing, and implementing environmental training presentations.
- Conducting environmental assessments and audits.
- Providing technical assistance for environmental health regulations.
- Implementing environmental management systems and programs.
- Analyzing and interpreting environmental laws and regulations.
- Monitoring and documenting environmental performance.
- Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and policy.
- Preparing and presenting detailed reports on environmental investigations and compliance activities.
- Managing hazardous waste storage facilities.
- Applies for environmental permits and maintains a schedule for renewals, reporting, and provisions of all environmentally related permits.
- Acts as a liaison with Agency regulators and negotiates for terms favorable to the organization regarding legal agreements, permit conditions, and proposed regulations.
- Responds to significant accidents, incidents, and complaints and provides guidance to operational teams.
- Prepares and maintains environmentally related plans and procedures for facilities.
- Prepares reports and documents as required by regulatory agencies and corporate and facility management.
- Prepares and provides environmental related training.
- Serves as liaison between facilities and outside contractors, and regulatory personnel on all environmentally related projects and activities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 5+ Year Environmental Compliance experience required.
- Knowledge of local Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) laws/regulations (required).
- RCRA 40 CFR hazardous waste management knowledge (required).
- Extensive experience in the regulatory industry, with a strong focus on TCEQ and EPA regulations.
- Proven track record of successfully achieving and maintaining ISO certification in the chemical industry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with government agencies and internal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated experience in responding to RFPs and bid proposals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ISO Certifications experience preferred.
- Familiarity with the specific compliance requirements in the chemicals sector.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop a compliance team.
- The ISO standard specifically tailored for the chemical industry is ISO 9001, which pertains to quality management systems. However, more specific standards also apply, such as:
- ISO 14001: Environmental Management Systems - This standard provides a framework for an effective environmental management system and is applicable to any organization that wants to improve resource efficiency, reduce waste, and drive down costs.
- ISO 17025: General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories - This standard is particularly relevant for chemical companies that operate laboratories to ensure testing accuracy and reliability
