Responsibilities:

1. Team Leadership and Management:

  • Oversee and manage the business development team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
  • Hire and train new team members, ensuring they understand our company’s mission, values, and sales processes.
  • Create and manage progression plans and leadership development programs for the BD team.

2. Strategic Planning and Execution:

  • Develop and execute business development strategies, including market specializations, expansion, and vertical growth.
  • Optimize team structure (BD Representatives, Managers, and Directors) to best utilize individual capabilities

3. Hands-On Coaching and Support:

  • Provide day-to-day coaching to team members, helping them achieve their goals.
  • Act as a backup for business development team members when needed.
  • Organize sales contests and team-building activities to motivate and engage the team.

4. Client Engagement and Negotiations:

  • Lead client presentations and proposals.
  • Act as a legal liaison during client agreements and negotiations.
  • Travel with BD team for key client meetings and industry conferences.

5. Performance Metrics and Reviews:

  • Track KPIs to measure team performance.
  • Conduct weekly meetings and performance reviews to assess progress and address challenges.

6. Automation and Efficiency:

  • Research and implement business development automation tools to increase BD outreach efficiency
  • Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) for efficient business development practices.

7. Strategic Account Management:

  • Develop strategic account plans for key clients, ensuring focused BD effort to capitalize on expansion opportunities.
  • Maintain and update client-related information and reports such as active client agreements, contractors per client, etc.

8. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Represent the business development team in periodic management meetings.
  • Work closely with BD, Recruitment and Operations teams during the entire lifecycle of placements.


Requirements:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of contract staffing experience, including at least 5 years leading sales or business development teams.
  • Experience in life sciences preferred (biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical device staffing).

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (advanced degrees are a plus).

Location:

  • Located in San Diego, CA, or willing to relocate.
