The Institute for Community Leadership (ICL) seeks an energetic, self-motivated Youth and Family Specialist to lead organizing efforts. Founded in 1995, ICL strengthens community, peace, and expands social and economic justice by educating and preparing young people to become lifelong, active participants in a robust and equitable democratic process.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Youth and Family Specialist is a liaison between ICL’s dynamic leadership and civic engagement initiatives, and diverse families and students throughout Washington. The Specialist builds power with community organizations, elected officials, labor unions, and coalitions to promote policy advocacy across Washington, and integrate students into meaningful civic engagement.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong self-initiative, an outgoing and “team player” attitude.
  • Ability to work with communities of diverse ages, races, and cultures.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some travel to other cities and states (expenses paid).
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to lift 10 pounds.


Experience with the following types of employers is valued: labor unions, progressive advocacy organizations, elected officials, and campaigns. Bilingual or multilingual is an asset.

 

Candidates must:

  • Live in the South King County or greater Tacoma area
  • This is an on-site, in-person position requiring robust community integration. 
  • Have a driver’s license, vehicle, and automobile insurance.

Salary Range is $60-64,000 doe. Benefits package includes full medical and dental benefits and employer-matched simple IRA. Benefits also include sickness and vacation in the first year. Travel costs are covered, and mileage reimbursed at the federal rate.
