The QA/QC Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the implementation of rigorous QA/QC protocols, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and driving continuous improvement across our restoration projects.


Key Responsibilities: 

- Develop and implement robust QA/QC protocols and procedures tailored to controlled burns and ecosystem restoration projects, ensuring alignment with project objectives, environmental permits, and regulatory standards.

- Lead pre-burn assessments, burn planning, and post-burn evaluations to optimize burn effectiveness, minimize ecological impacts, and enhance habitat diversity.

- Utilize advanced monitoring techniques and ecological assessments to evaluate ecosystem health, vegetation response, and wildlife habitat enhancement following controlled burns.

- Analyze data, prepare detailed QA/QC reports, and present findings to senior management and project teams, providing actionable insights and recommendations for project optimization and environmental stewardship.

- Collaborate closely with fire management teams, project managers, field crews, and regulatory agencies to address QA/QC challenges promptly, implement corrective actions, and ensure adherence to safety protocols and environmental compliance.

- Stay abreast of emerging research, technological advancements, and best practices in fire ecology, controlled burns, and ecosystem restoration to integrate innovative approaches into QA/QC strategies.

- Mentor a team of Project Manager, providing guidance, training, and professional development opportunities to foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.


Periodic Responsibilities: 

•Participate in meetings with Contracting Managers, Project Managers, and Sales Teams 

•Participate in marketing events, networking events and/or professional development functions 

•Conduct un-announced inspections of each Project Managers office to ensure that they are organized, and all required information is being kept

•Conduct site surveys in anticipation of prescribed fire and prepare, review and approve burn plan(s) 

•Conduct GPS data collection and/or download data into an appropriate format 

•Provide technical information to a Sales Territory Manager when requested 

•Provide input and recommendations regarding the selection of project sites for award submittals 

•Train team members in standard KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities), company policies/guidelines and leadership responsibilities 

•Lead or attend required training sessions, attend certification programs or participate in self-study as required 

•Perform other duties as assigned 


Travel:

Moderate – Heavy, most travel will be local and will be based upon project locations in the Midwest, may require occasional extended overnight stays in remote locations.  A company vehicle with a gas card and a toll package will be provided.


Expected Work Conditions:  

Work may be performed indoors or outdoors throughout the year and may yield exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy conditions caused by the weather; exposure to non-weather related extreme temperatures or conditions; exposure to wildfire; exposure to overhead or falling hazards such as tree branches in a woodland; exposure to poisonous plants and/or wildlife; contact with water or other liquids; exposure to loud and/or extended noises; exposure to fumes, smoke, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases and allergens that may affect the respiratory system, eyes or the skin; and possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Work may be performed in or near bodies of water, on rough terrain, on or near steep slopes. Work may require working with or around sharp objects, machinery with moving parts and/or vehicles.  


Hours:

The normal work schedule for all employees is 8 to 10 hours a day, Monday through Friday and occasionally Saturday and/or Sunday. Supervisors will advise employees of the times their schedules will normally begin and end. Staffing needs, weather conditions, and operational demands often necessitate variations in starting and ending times and variations in the total hours scheduled each day and week.

Requirements:

- College degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, Ecology, Fire Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or related field, with specialized knowledge in controlled burns and ecosystem restoration.

- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in QA/QC management roles within the habitat restoration or environmental conservation sector, with a proven track record of successfully managing projects and ensuring regulatory compliance.

- Expertise in fire behavior modeling, prescribed burn planning, smoke management, and ecological monitoring techniques.

- Comprehensive understanding of environmental regulations, permitting processes, and safety protocols governing controlled burns and habitat restoration activities.

- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret ecological data, assess project impacts, and implement effective QA/QC strategies to achieve restoration objectives.

- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.

- Valid State of Illinois driver’s license 

- State of Illinois Pesticide Operator License 

- Current in First Aid/CPR 

- I100/S130/S190 firefighter certification

- S290 firefighter certification 

- Illinois Certified Prescribed Burn Manager (CPBM)
