The investment associate will play a key role in the development of the business. The person will help source deals, working as part of deal teams, work closely with the senior leadership at portfolio companies and act as a liaison between the portfolio companies and the partner in charge of the North American market. The associate will work closely with the Partner in charge of North America to build Qualitas’ business in the US.

Essential Responsibilities

· Sector research (USA renewables and energy transition) to identify new investment themes and opportunities

· Engagement with external (financial, technical, market and commercial DD advisors), industry networking (including attending industry events and conferences) to build long-lasting relationships

· Transaction execution including due diligence coordination, negotiation and documentation of key commercial agreements (JDA, MIPA, Shareholders’ Agreement, etc), management of external consultants and advisers and support / lead (as appropriate) discussions with key stakeholders including vendors, partners and their advisers

· Own and take full responsibility for the valuation and investment model with a zero-error tolerance. Ensure that the valuation and investment model includes inputs that have been provided by relevant sources and validated by senior management (and relevant advisers) and produces outputs that are coherent and consistent with the assumptions used

· Drafting and producing detailed investment memos which provide a clear explanation of the relevant investment opportunity including wider sector considerations, risk analysis, target returns include upside/downside sensitivities and assumptions used, exit strategy, levers for improvement and a final recommendation

· Collaborate with other members of the USA based team to evaluate investment opportunities as part of cross functional teams including other colleagues in the construction, energy management and development areas

· Foster a meritocratic environment where hard work, commitment, trust, competence, and collaboration is recognized and rewarded

· Oversight of investments made including overall responsibility to monitor performance against business plan, engagement with other internal teams including finance, asset management, energy management and development to optimise returns and continuously seek improvements

· Clearly and concisely articulate key issues in oral discussions and written communications with senior management and successfully influence the outcome of a transaction across multiple decision makers and stakeholders

· Comply with the company’s code of ethics and employee handbook, all relevant and applicable industry regulations and always behave in an ethical and exemplary manner, acting as a role model

· Participates in team building activities, helps to build Qualitas Energy’s brand in the USA, promotes the company’s values and engages in community related activities that allow us to give to society back what we have received


Basic Qualifications and Requirements

· At least Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance or Business Administration or equivalent (MBA valued favourably); an engineering degree with financial services experience may be considered

· At least 4-5 years of relevant experience in energy financial services industry, including investment banking, project finance and investment as a principal or investor

· Extensive financial modelling experience in energy markets. Ability to build (and supervise others) financial models from scratch

· Experience in executing transactions across the region as principal rather than as an adviser

· Good understanding, ideally demonstrated by supporting certificates or education, of energy markets and in particular the power sector including commercial and regulatory aspects

· Expertise in commercial contracts, credit documentation, and negotiations; proven experience evaluating and negotiating legal documentation

· Good and growing network of relationships across energy landscape including developers, utilities, other investors, and lenders particularly in the USA

· Demonstrated ability and success working as part of cross-functional teams in complex and dynamic environments

· Leadership skills (resilience, patience and empathy) to coordinate execution of transactions alongside more junior members of the team, partners and advisers.

· Intellectual curiosity, ability to learn quickly and work independently

· Proven ability to work under pressure, delivering results with tight deadlines and capable of multi-tasking

· Skilled communicator who can influence a wide range of audience via balanced approach to deals and a clear understanding/presentation of risks

· Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

· Ability to live and work in the USA. Flexibility to travel as needed.
