The Automation Engineer will be responsible for implementing automation solutions for injection molding processes, troubleshooting secondary operations, and developing and executing assembly processes and equipment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement automation solutions on the molding floor (such as cobots, pickers, and conveyors) to lower costs and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Lead the design, installation, and programming of robotic work cells from initial concept through post-production.
  • Troubleshoot secondary operations (like pad printing, laser engraving, and sonic welding).
  • Provide consulting during the estimating phase for assembly and automation opportunities, and then implement the approved processes in manufacturing.
  • Communicate effectively with end-users and maintain a strong customer focus.
  • Oversee the development of in-house robotic integration projects, whether for new initiatives or ongoing improvements.
  • Present and adjust concepts to ensure team understanding and approval.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to determine required parts and project budgets.
  • Maintain documentation on drawings, bills of material, budget tracking, safety, and program changes.
  • Implement safety circuits, machine interfaces, and peripheral controls.
  • Serve as a liaison with external integrators and vendors for special projects.
  • Train and mentor production technicians and maintenance staff on troubleshooting and documentation.
  • Assist with inspections, projects, or modifications at other facilities as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary by management.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge in hardware architecture, benchmarking, design, and network engineering.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure technology and basic programming languages (e.g., Java, PERL, Python).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Strong electrical and mechanical skills with a logical and analytical approach.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and self-motivation.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development.
  • Experience with high-level robotic programming for Motoman robots (XRC, NX100, DX100 controllers).
  • Proficiency in ladder logic programming for Allen-Bradley PLCs.
  • Understanding of HMI operation and basic programming.
  • Experience with vision systems for part inspection (e.g., Keyence, Cognex, Dalsa).
  • Knowledge of safety controllers, PLCs, and safety interlocks.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD / AutoCAD LT for electrical prints and cell layouts.
  • Experience with 3D CAD (Solid Edge) for designing tools and fixtures.
  • Adherence to current robotic industry safety standards and guidelines.
