Our Director of Curriculum and Instruction (with an emphasis on ELA) will lead and coordinate the work of the K-12 English Language Arts, Social Studies and Library Services teams to provide support and promote a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging through the use of Tier 1 Core Resources, Tier 2, Tier 3, supplemental resources and strategies across all central departments, schools. This Director will partner intentionally with the C&I Director of Expanded Academic Learning to ensure coherent systems of instructional excellence connected to core instruction. This Director will work closely with stakeholders and lead district initiatives aligned to effective instruction based on research and align to grade level access to standards and acceleration for all students.


SUMMARY:

Provide District-wide leadership to schools and other departments by developing and implementing curriculum; implementing instructional best practices; and monitoring student results. Partner with other departments within the Division of Teaching and Learning to develop educational targets, monitor legal issues, and ensure assessment plans are implemented. Ensure District-wide compliance around federal, state, and Board requirements. Define and implement Board and Superintendent targets. Provide support, resources, and professional development for all teachers and administrators; communicate with parent and community groups regarding District priorities and results; and network with state, regional, and federal educational organizations.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a key partner with central and school resources to develop and implement student-focused curriculum and instructional priorities. Lead district teams focused on elementary and secondary instructional practices and programs designed to increase student achievement and ensure compliance with District policies and state requirements, including, for example, principal advisory groups; teams implementing reform requirements; clusters of schools and their central support teams; and other teams/groups as needed.


  • Administer, as a member of the Division of Teaching and Learning, the design, implementation, and evaluation of a standards-based education systems for District schools.


  • Develop curriculum to implement the Colorado Academic Standards and Common Core Standards as mandated by state law.


  • Collaboratively develop and support the vision for instructional excellence and grade level acceleration to ensure that all students are successful and graduate with choices. Interpret, implement, and make recommendations to facilitate Board and Superintendent goals and targets and meet federal and state mandates.


  • Hire, supervise and evaluate any teacher on special assignment (TOSAs), Assistant Director and project coordinators assigned to the work of curriculum and instruction. Develop clear outcome measures for TOSAs and project coordinators and align central work with school and student results.


  • Direct, design and facilitate professional development for teachers and administrators around curriculum and instruction. Interpret and communicate federal, state, and District law, policy, or procedure related to instruction, curriculum, use of educational materials, and required school procedures and reports.


  • Develop and manage budgets and other resources related to curriculum and instruction; serve on budget committees developing District-priorities to ensure alignment with instructional strategies and program priorities.


  • Represent the District on local and state committees, Department of Education, and other educational organizations and Boards.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 4 years as a principal preferred.



EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Master's degree plus additional course work required for certification or licensure
