Engineering a world of possibilities The Associate Director for DisabilitySupport Services plays a pivotal role in the management and enhancement ofdisability support services at Mines. This multifaceted position involvesoverseeing the comprehensive disability registration process, whereinteraction with students is paramount, encompassing communication,documentation review, intake meetings, and the determination andcoordination of accommodations. Notably, this role aligns these processeswith state and federal regulations and best practices. Supervision ofprofessional staff is a core responsibility, from recruitment to dailymanageme As a disability accommodation expert, the Associate Director offerseducation and training to diverse audiences, instilling awareness ofdisability rights, advocacy, and inclusive practices. Building strategicpartnerships with various departments further ensures accessibility within thecampus environment. Collaborating with the Director, this role alsoinfluences policy development and actively contributes to the department'sstrategic plan. In accordance with our flexible workplace policy, this work is completedprimarily on campus in Golden, Colorado. Work occasionally is required onevenings and weekends, particularly during high-volume testing times at theend of each semester. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESManagement of Disability accommodations and coordinationOversee and manage the interactive disability registration process, engagingwith students through communication, reviewing disability documentation,conducting intake meetings, determining accommodations and services,coordinating accommodations, and providing ongoing support to students andfamilies, addressing inquiries, accommodation requests, and referrals.Manage conflict, address concerns, and tackle challenges with students andfaculty regarding disability accommodations.Build and strengthen partnerships with Residence Life, Dining Services,Academic Affairs, and various Student Life departments to coordinateacademic, housing, dining, and other campus accommodations.Coordinate housing and dietary accommodations with Residence Life and DiningServices, maintaining expertise in all disability and housing guidelines andrequirements affecting accommodations, including the Americans withDisabilities Act and Fair Housing Act.Ensure course materials are accessible to students with disabilityaccommodations. This involves collaboration with faculty and ITS'Accessibility Technologist, assisting with document remediation and thecreation of accessible materials, and outsourcing projects to contractedvendors as needed.In the Director's absence, represent the department and assumeresponsibility for disability-related inquiries or assistance, includingfull decision-making authority for office operations.Advisor to the student organization, Oredigger Disability Activism andCommunity (ODAC).Act as backup support to the Mines Testing Center, including evening andon-call exam coverage as required.Support Mines Testing Center operations during final exam periods (Fall andSpring), involving transitioning DSS operations for final exam preparationand proctoring.Cultivate an inclusive, safe, and supportive culture and environment. Campus Education, Programming & Legal ComplianceImplement and align all policies, processes, and procedures related to thedisability accommodation process with state and federal laws, as well ascurrent best practices in the field. Ensure departmental compliance withrelevant disability laws and regulations, such as the Americans withDisabilities Act (ADA), Section 504, FERPA, HIPAA and Fair Housing Act.Maintain knowledge of disability laws and compliance, and communicateprocedures and policies to students, families, and the greater campuscommunityServe as a disability accommodation expert, offering education,training, a d professional development to the campus and wider community,including students and families. Provide expertise on disability rights,advocacy, DSS processes, and inclusive practices to create an accessibleand welcoming campus environment for students with disabilities. Act as anally to the disabled community.Collaborate with the Accessibility Coordinator to manage, design, anddevelop student-facing programming and support services, as well as campusdisability education and advocacy.Manage the department's Transition to Mines program for registeredstudents, supporting the transition of first-year students from high schoolto college. This includes coordinating campus resources for designatedfirst-year students who opt in.Collaborate with the Director to revise, develop, amend, and administerinstitutional and academic disability policies or procedures to ensurecompliance with state and federal laws and regulations.Assist with updates and management of the department's website andcommunications, conveying information on DSS registration, departmentservices, and accessing accommodations.Participate in various DEI&A committees and projects benefiting the campuscommunity.Participate as a member of Student Life on initiatives, training, oropportunities enhancing the student experience at Mines.Support faculty and the Dean of Students regarding academic misconduct,including proactive measures to prevent misconduct, responding tosuspicions, and aiding faculty investigations of potential academicmisconduct cases. SupervisionSupervise professional staff members in the department who support dailyoperations and the disability registration process.Provide guidance and education to staff around disability law, bestpractices, and departmental procedures and processes.Take the lead on hiring, onboarding, and training specific to positions
