Job Summary:

Support the accounting department by leading a team of Billing Specialists and assisting with processing legal bills for client distribution. Responsible for monthly reporting metrics and addressing any issues that arise during the billing cycle.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for all metrics related to the firm's work in process and accounts receivable.
  • Assist in processing prebills within the legal billing system and distribute them to billing attorneys for monthly review.
  • Review, edit, and analyze each prebill according to client billing guidelines, finalizing them in the legal billing system.
  • Collaborate with the accounting team to resolve billing inquiries and troubleshoot recurring issues.
  • Oversee work in process to ensure timely and accurate billing, adhering to client guidelines.
  • Assist with accounts receivable, tracking past-due accounts and following up on payments.
  • Monitor matter spend and update legal billing budgets as required by the billing system.
  • Address technical system issues and manage multiple-party involvement in various matters.
  • Maintain and update matter billing contacts and client billing guidelines, regularly informing the billing team.

  • Proven ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Computer Skills:

  • Experience with AIM/Perfect Law timekeeping and billing systems is ideal.
  • Proficiency with legal billing software such as TyMetrix360, Legal-X, Counsel Link, Legal Exchange, Serengeti, Wolters Kluwer, etc., is required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and previous experience with word processing software.


Education:

  • High School Diploma or higher.


Reasoning Ability:

  • Capable of solving practical problems and handling a variety of concrete variables with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Physical Demands:

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands, talk, or hear.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.


Requirements:

  • Previous legal billing experience is necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a small team within the Accounting Department.
  • Self-starter with a proactive approach to anticipating business needs.
