SDS Mechanical & Automation (A Division of Southern Design Services, Inc.) is seeking a skilled Industrial Mechanic/Millwright to join our team.

The successful candidate should be able to perform Industrial Mechanic/Millwright work including installing, maintaining, dismantling and repairing new and existing machinery or equipment & its components such as conveyor systems, pulleys, mechanical clutches, gear boxes, hydraulic & pneumatic control systems.

The Industrial Mechanic/Millwright will be responsible for ensuring that all machinery operates efficiently & safely, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity

These operation systems are found in a variety of workplace settings such as manufacturing plants, production plants, construction sites & repair shops.

In the course of work, Industrial Mechanic/Millwrights are required to move, assemble and install machinery & equipment such as shafting, precision bearings, gear boxes, motors, mechanical clutches, conveyors, & tram rails, using hoists, pulleys, dollies, rollers, & trucks.

Industrial Mechanic/Millwrights are also involved in routine tasks, such as lubrication of machinery, seal replacement, cleaning of parts during an overhaul, adjusting valves & seals, investigating breakdowns & preventative maintenance.

Industrial Mechanic/Millwright must have a good understanding of fluid mechanics (hydraulics and pneumatics), and all of the components involved in these processes, such as valves, cylinders, pumps & compressors.

The position requires working within precise limits or standards of accuracy, at heights without fear; the use of logical step-by-step procedures in work; planning, solving problems & decision-making based on quantifiable information.

Due to the type of work and the tools & equipment used, certain physical requirements must be met.

Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring & uncomfortable positions. Frequently handle, lift, carry and set up parts &equipment up to 50lbs.

The successful candidate will work closely with other team members, clients, maintenance staff, production teams, and management to identify & resolve mechanical issues. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Industrial millwright/mechanic.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, & electrical systems.
  • Ability to read & interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Experienced working with a wide variety of precision tools, such as vernier calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, levels, gauge blocks, and optical & laser alignment tooling.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently &as part of a team.
  • Proactive approach to maintenance & repairs.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure & meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations & protocols.
  • Ability to use hand & power tools effectively.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping & documentation.
  • Willingness to work overtime and on-call as needed.
  • Physical stamina & dexterity to perform manual tasks.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects & work in confined spaces.
  • Strong work ethic & reliability.
  • Willingness to continuously learn & improve skills.
