The Senior Materials Planner position is responsible for the supply chain materials needed in production and requires self-starter with a strong drive to improve existing processes and systems. This role involves forecasting, planning, purchasing, inventory control, ERP expertise and coordinating the flow of materials and supplies on an optimal delivery cycle to meet production demands. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, ability to balance immediate/long term priorities are a necessity.


The position provides backup and support to the Supply Chain Manager and operational coordination to the Warehouse and Purchasing/Planning teams.

The Senior Materials Planner works closely with various departments, including production, procurement, and logistics, to maintain materials inventory levels and optimize supply chain efficiency.


This position requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience in supply chain management.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage the flow of material thorough the planning, procurement, and manufacturing cycle to finished goods.
  • Develop and maintain accurate materials forecasts based on production schedules, sales forecasts, and historical data.
  • Create and update materials requirement plans (MRP) to ensure adequate supply of materials.
  • Analyze forecast and inventory levels to identify medium to long-range material and capacity issues to prevent shortages or overages.
  • Implement inventory control strategies to optimize stock levels and reduce carrying costs.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to align materials planning with production needs, shifts in demand and inventory that could impact production or shipments.
  • Identify and assess potential risks in the supply chain, developing mitigation strategies to address them.
  • Analyze materials flow processes and identify areas for improvement to enhance efficiency.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on materials inventory status, materials availability, supplier performance, and key KPIs.
  • Perform and assist in performing physical inventories as required.
  • Develop contingency plans to mitigate potential disruptions. Communicate effectively with management of any materials constrains.
  • Assist as directed with special projects designed to improve
  • Supply Chain processes.
  • Act as buyer’s back up by placing purchase orders and tracking delivery schedules to ensure timely receipt of materials.
  • Create and release materials specification.
  • GMP Document ownership assisting in the preparation/revision of SOPS and Material Specifications as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supply Chain management.


What you need to be successful:

  • A B.S./B.A. Degree in in Business, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials planning, supply chain management, manufacturing or inventory management.
  • Knowledgeable in MRP concepts and experience with MRP software (SAP preferred).
  • Certification in supply chain management or materials planning (e.g., APICS CPIM or CSCP) is a plus
