The Coding Manager will be a credentialed coding subject matter expert that works in an operational leadership role in collaboration with the VP and Director of the Risk Adjustment and Professional Coding team. This position will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing our medical coding processes. The Coding Manager provides leadership oversight to a team of Coding Team Leads, conducts audits, provides training, and collaborates with cross-functional departments to achieve organizational objectives. The Coding Manager ensures that productivity and quality measures are maintained to client and CSI professional standards, and works as a key member of the management team supporting continued growth and scale of the practice.
- Essential Responsibilities:Oversight for medical coding process optimization, quality, accuracy and production. Ensures standards remain in alignment with CSI and the client.
- Directs an assigned group of Team Leads, ensuring that teams are following all CSI policies, ICD-10 CM/CMS guidelines, and client-specific policies and guidelines.
- Collaborates with cross-functional departments in order to achieve organizational objectives.
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of coding regulations, guidelines, and best practices, ensuring compliance with all relevant coding and billing regulations.
- Conduct regular coding audits to assess accuracy and compliance.
- Develop corrective action plans and provide feedback to coding staff to improve coding accuracy.
- Maintain professional client-facing communications via email and Zoom calls.
- Provide clients with remediation reports.
- Collaborate with our IT Digital Transformation Leader to develop and maintain comprehensive quality reporting processes, including analyzing data, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing strategies to enhance the overall quality of our digital transformation initiatives.
- Host client meetings to provide updates on productivity and accuracy in production as well as close any outstanding open opportunities.
- Maintain a current understanding of CMS coding guidelines and client-specific policies and coding guidelines to efficiently lead/direct the coding team.
- Monitor QA and productivity to ensure 95% accuracy and required CPH is maintained.
- Collaborate with Team Leads in coder remediations to close the gap in productivity and accuracy.
- Create PowerPoint Presentations to update clients on project progress.
- Collaborate with CSI Operations team to track client-specific requests, ensure all daily activity forms are completed, and ensure all timesheets are approved.
- Approve Team Lead timesheets.
- Update CSI policy metrics when necessary.
- Support Team Leads in career growth and development.
- Report/Collaborate with the Director and VP to maintain client, team lead, and coder expectations.
- Host weekly 1:1 meeting with Team Leads.
- Maintain an open-door policy for all team members from operations, team leads, and coders.
- Participate in strategic planning collaboration with CSI leadership.
- Support shadowing activities for coder career progression.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Familiarity with CMS regulations for Risk Adjustment programs related to documentation and coding compliance for both Inpatient and Outpatient.
- Technology diversity in EHR (Epic, Cerner highly desired)
- Technology agile-Coding Platforms, AI Tools, and Analytics
- Highly analytical and enjoys working with data
- Experience as mentor, coach or trainer
- Adheres to a moral and ethical framework in approaching work and servicing clients
- Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results
- Ability to work independently but also as part of a team environment
- Self-motivated, highly organized, and detailed oriented
- Excellent time management and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while monitoring deadlines and identifying resource conflicts
- Strong sense of personal ownership for assigned work
- Ability to delegate as needed with appropriate follow up
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, clients, and vendors (to the extent applicable).
