The Books Studio defines the UX guidelines and design language (codified in our design system) that enables teams across Amazon Books to design high-quality, cohesive, on-brand Books shopping and reading experiences efficiently and at scale.

We are looking for a Senior UX designer that enjoys building the design system that is utilized by designers and developers around the world. You love thinking about how the design framework and component work across different use cases (different screen sizes, languages, countries, etc).

You love collaborating with design and engineering teams with different business objectives and identifying the solution that can scale.


About the team:

Our mission is to inspire readers by making it easy to read more and get more out of reading.

In pursuit of this, our 75+ person global studio provides the user research, UX, and brand design for Kindle E-readers, Kindle apps for phones & tablets, Author & Publisher tools, and book shopping experiences used by millions of readers and thousands of authors around the world.


Key job responsibilities

• Define and evolve the design system

• Build libraries for design tools (Figma, etc.) and contribute to design component documentation

• Partner with teams across Amazon to identify and deliver compelling ways to bring design consistency across the site

• Consider market analysis, customer feedback, metrics, and usability findings to inform design rationale

• Create design specifications for engineering partners


Basic Qualifications

• 7+ years industry experience providing interaction design solutions for web and/or software applications.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience.

• Fluency in best practices for web and app information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques

• Proficiency in a variety of design tools, with mastery of Figma as a hard requirement.

• A strong online portfolio demonstrating past work experience and relevant, user-centered design solutions is required.


Preferred Qualifications:

• Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills including the ability to communicate complex, interactive design concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.

• Self-starter who is a customer-obsessed, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic team player.

• Ability to work with highly technical teams and handle multiple projects in an agile, fast-paced environment.

• Ability to prototype in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, or After Effects highly desired.

Pay Range: $68 -$75 per hour
