Madison, United States Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County Full time

​​This 4K teacher will work with preschool-aged youth in a community-based preschool program sponsored by the Verona Area School District (VASD) in collaboration with Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County. The 4K teacher will oversee a classroom of preschool-aged youth (4-6 years of age) in a part-day licensed early childhood/afterschool environment. Primary duties include planning and preparation, managing the classroom environment, instructing students, and adhering to professional responsibilities. This position will implement the 4K curriculum provided by VASD. The 4K Teacher will work closely with the VASD liaison and the Program Director. This position will work directly with other VASD support staff and Boys & Girls Clubs staff. The 4K Teacher will support all youth programs (preschool, school-aged, middle school/teen) as assigned. This position will involve onboarding and training before fall programming at a designated club location. The 4k DPI Teacher is also expected to be flexible and adaptable, taking on other duties assigned to support the organization's objectives.​


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Childcare and Development: 50%

  • Direct, create, and implement fun and exciting activities that inspire participation within guidelines outlined by the Pyramid Model and other Verona Area School District-approved curricula.
  • Lead in developing and implementing routines and structures throughout programming hours.
  • Lead in planning and implementing the daily program of activities based on principles of child development following the program’s curriculum.
  • Lead in fully implementing IEPs and behavior/medical plans for children with special needs.
  • Encourage and model social behavior and expectations that are developmentally appropriate.
  • Acknowledge feelings with sensitivity and demonstrate appropriate expression of emotions.
  • Assist children with all toileting needs, including diapering if applicable.
  • Provides respect for diversity by using anti-biased, non-sexist language, images, materials, equipment, and experiences that reflect center and global communities.
  • Conduct smooth and unregimented transitions between activities; use fun songs and strategies for children.
  • Interact frequently, affectionately, and respectfully by engaging with children appropriately; speak calmly and courteously in the child's proximity.


Record Keeping and Compliance 40%

  • Always complies with State of WI DCF 251 Childcare Licensing Rules.
  • Follows tracking procedures and maintains accurate tracking records at all times.
  • Follows Child Abuse / Neglect Policy & Procedures.
  • Adheres to agency rules in the Childcare Policy Manual.
  • Complete all record-keeping requirements outlined by childcare licensing and BGCDC policies and procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate reporting according to organization and grant requirements and implementation of grant-funded programming through implementing activities as specified by grant expectations.

Maintain a Safe Environment: 10%

  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and clean environment.
  • Always provide site & sound supervision of children.
  • Maintain safety by ensuring equipment and environment are appropriately maintained.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Communicate positively and create relationships with members and families with the support of Boys & Girls Clubs Management and VASD Laison.
  • Ensure a productive work environment by engaging in professional behavior through participating in staff meetings and professional development for up to 20 hours annually.

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES

​​ Responsible for fiscal stewardship of organizational and grant-provided funds. ​


RELATIONSHIPS

Internal and external relationships are essential to the role.

​​Internal: As an integral part of our team, you will maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (both professional and volunteer), Club members, and your supervisor. This continuous communication ensures the seamless exchange of information, facilitates discussions on pertinent issues, clarifies guidelines and instructions, provides instruction and guidance, and offers counseling when necessary.

​External: Externally, you will maintain contact as needed with various community groups, schools, members' parents, and other stakeholders to foster collaborative relationships and assist in resolving any arising issues. By actively engaging with these external partners, you contribute to creating a supportive network and ensuring the well-being of our members within the broader community.​


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. ​​The ability and desire to work with youth in various settings.
  2. ​Strong verbal, written, and communication skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. ​​21 years of age or older
  2. A Bachelors Degree is required.
  3. ​An early education degree or DPI License for ages four and up is required.
  4. ​Eligibility as a Caregiver by the Department of Children and Families
  5. ​Successful completion of drug test and physical examination.
  6. ​Infant/Child CPR & AED certified within three months of hire (training provided by the organization)
  7. ​AHT certified before working with youth (training provided by the organization)

​Staff must be certified in one of the following ways:

  • ​DPI Teacher License (Initial or Lifetime)
  • ​Emergency Teaching License
  • ​Ability and willingness to work toward a Teaching License​


REQUIRED HOURS

​​​​​This position is classified as non-exempt and part-time, requiring availability during operational hours to fulfill the essential duties of the role. The position requires occasional travel to off-site Clubs, meetings, and events. Typical working hours are from 9:00 am-12:20 pm Monday-Friday.

​The regular hours for this position will vary based on enrollment in the program. Working hours will be discussed upon hire. As project deadlines dictate, holiday, weekend, and evening hours will be required. Must be able to travel to off-site Clubs, meetings, and events. May be required to participate in special programs and events. ​​

Ability to visually monitor the activities of club members. The employee must be able to perform CPR or first aid. The employee must use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, jump, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.​
