GenServe is seeking an operations leader to develop a talent pipeline for generator field service technicians. This individual will also be responsible for technician performance management and improvement.

The Technician Recruiting & Development Director will play an integral role in ensuring that GenServe quickly fills technician openings with high-performing candidates to provide outstanding service to our customers and support the company’s growth. GenServe currently employs over 160 technicians. Maintaining full staffing of highly-qualified field service employees is mission-critical for supporting the growth of our business and providing responsive maintenance and repair services to our customers. This manager will also be active in overseeing the onboarding, development, and productivity of technicians once they have joined the company.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, high-energy, and super-organized driver of our recruiting efforts with a passion for identifying, hiring, and on-boarding outstanding field service technicians. He/she will report to the COO and the President, Operations and will work closely with the Operations Leadership Team (Branch Managers and Technician Training & Safety Team) and Human Resources. This position will be located in one of GenServe’s branches in NY, NJ, TX, FL, IL or CA and this job will require regular travel to branches and recruiting events (up to 50% and more during onboarding).

 

Technician Recruiting

Design and execute strategies to develop a talent pipeline of generator field service technicians for all branches:


1.Cultivate multiple candidate channels and position GenServe as “Employer of Choice”:

  • Technical Schools
  • Military
  • Social media
  • Job posting sites
  • Diesel truck mechanics
  • Networking (e.g., job fairs)


2.Manage and leverage technician recruiting budget to ensure investments are resulting in improved staffing/skill levels:

  • Monitor pay rates and benefits in each region to ensure GenServe remains competitive (including performance incentives such as commissions on incremental work identified during service calls).
  • Collaborate with GenServe branches to assess and anticipate staffing needs including weekly monitoring of tech staffing, interview schedules, job offers and hiring status
  • Supervise Technician Mentor Program
  • Screen technician candidates to assess fit
  • Coordinate of new hire on-boarding, leveraging internal trainers


3.Monitor pay rates and benefits in each region to ensure GenServe remains competitive (including performance incentives such as commissions on incremental work identified during service calls)

Technician Development

Partner with the Operations Leadership Team to develop longer-term strategies and processes to improve technician skill levels, rewards/recognition and performance:


  • Technician career roadmap
  • Supervise 2x/year technician skill assessments
  • Assess utilization and productivity of techs by skill level
  • Align training schedules with targeted skill improvements
  • Work with Technician Training & Safety team to identify opportunities to design and execute new training programs to improve technician performance
  • Track repair requests submitted by new technicians
  • Identify and share technician best practices across branches
  • Work with Operations Leadership Team to manage technician recognition programs
  • Work with Technician Training & Safety team to budget training hours by branch
