Outbound Logistics Specialist

MAU is hiring an Outbound Logistics Specialist for Volvo in Ridgeville, SC. As an Outbound Logistics Specialist, you will work with the Outbound Logistics team to manage the finished vehicle supply chain, including preparing and shipping cars to customers from plants, ports, and stock compounds across North America. This is a contract, 7-month short-term assignment.

  • 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM


General Requirements:

  • Strong data mining experience
  • Operational knowledge of carrier operations, such as experience working for an OEM, shipper, truck, rail company, or freight forwarder
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (including formulas, V lookup, pivot tables, conditional formatting), PowerPoint, and PowerBI
  • Comfortable speaking/presenting on the phone and in front of groups
  • Comfortable making data drive decisions and conveying ideas in group settings
  • Analytical and service-minded
  • Problem-solving and structured thinking
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Team oriented
  • Firm and able to drive carriers to perform


Essential Functions:

  • Drive carrier performance to ensure timely delivery of finished vehicles
  • Use performance data to determine underperformance by carriers on specific lanes
  • Facilitate business review meetings with carriers
  • Own carrier improvement plans and drive improvement
  • Take an active part in the implementation of new carriers
  • Ensure carrier KPIs are met
  • Ensure rail equipment is secured, loaded, and arrives timely at the destination
  • Manage ad hoc vehicle shipments
  • Create and update processes with a focus on automation
  • Act as a point of contact for sales organizations for delivery issues and questions
  • Act as interface and point of escalation between carriers, Volvo Cars, and other stakeholders
  • Develop and provide volume forecasts to an assigned carrier base
  • Escalate non-performing carriers to the purchasing team when needed
  • Manage freight costs, process payments, and address any discrepancies/adjustments
  • Audit freight spending to ensure contract compliance and cost control
  • Build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
  • Consistently achieve results, even under tough circumstances
  • Actively seek new ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development channels
  • Gain the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity
  • Perform other tasks as required
