Company description: Our client, one of the most prominent family offices in the country, is looking for an Assistant Controller to handle all the fund and operations work for their PE/VC fund and private foundation.
Title: Assistant Controller–Fund/Mgmt Company, Private Foundation
Core Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations and accounting for the Family Office management company and private foundation with a large, diversified alternative investment portfolio
- Daily/weekly cash management and bill pay across management company and private foundation
- Process capital calls and ensure requests are done accurately and timely
- Provide valuation updates to Fund Administrator (FA) for privately held investments in coordination with internal and external professionals
- Review and oversight of NAV calculations
- Assist with the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting prepared by FA
- General cash management and ownership of cash projection schedules for both management company and foundation in order to meet liquidity requirements and determine needs
- Respond to inquiries from Family Office and Foundation staff regarding transaction issues
- Assists with the compilation, and preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reports for senior management and board meetings relating to portfolio performance, asset allocation and liquidity/cash flow
- Coordinate tracking and organization of tax reporting from domestic and foreign investment funds; maintains tax compliance database for alternative investments; assists with annual tax reporting and regulatory filings.
- Work directly with legal and investment team members to support transaction execution, including review of subscription documents, tax structuring, compliance and funding considerations
- Ensure proper accounting treatment of all activity at FA; review general ledger activity and transaction postings
- Ensure all activities related to the valuation of investments, investment commitments, movement of cash and securities, capital calls, subscription and distribution activity are executed and recorded accurately at FA and internal records
- Organize, track, and monitor data and all investment documents required for various uses by Management Company and Private Foundation teams
- Various ad hoc projects as requested by Family Office or Foundation colleagues
Education/Credentials and/or Experience:
- Finance or Accounting undergraduate degree required, CPA or advanced degree preferred
- 5-8 years of experience, preferably in both public accounting and private investment/fund accounting related roles.
- Experience working with a Fund Administrator
- Experience working in or with a family office or private foundation a plus
- Solid knowledge of fund accounting concepts for alternative investments including Hedge Funds, Venture Capital, Private Equity, and Real Estate (direct and fund investments)
- General knowledge of corporate, partnership, fund, and personal taxation
- Exceptional analytical skills, ability to synthesize large amounts of data into actionable insights and reporting for colleagues and management
- Important qualities - Honest, resourceful, organized, proactive, self-motivated, collaborative, flexible, respectful, driven by the highest ethical standards and values, curious, client service oriented.
- Excellent communicator with strong verbal and written skills and proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
