Position Overview

PHIL is seeking a talented and experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead and grow our engineering team focused on processing pharmacy claims and coupons. This role involves overseeing the architecture, development, and optimization of our platform that enables real-time claims processing, coupon management, and integrations with pharmacy networks. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare technology, experience managing complex data processing workflows, and a passion for improving access to medications through technology.

This is an exciting role that offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the success of PHIL. As the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and expand a team of software engineers, architects, and technical managers focused on pharmacy claims and coupon processing.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and engineering excellence.

  • Set clear performance objectives and drive accountability within the team.

Technology & Architecture Strategy

  • Design, develop, and implement a robust, scalable architecture for pharmacy claims and coupon processing systems.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, develop solutions, and deliver high-quality software on time.

  • Ensure the platform is designed for scalability, availability, security, and compliance, especially with healthcare data standards (e.g., HIPAA).

Product Development

  • Collaborate with product management and business stakeholders to align on priorities, define the product roadmap, and drive the delivery of new features and enhancements.

  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to deployment and maintenance.

  • Prioritize work and allocate resources effectively to meet business and technical objectives.

Product Quality

  • Implement best practices for quality assurance, test automation, and release management.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize the performance of production systems, maintaining high availability and resilience.

Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting

  • Communicate progress, challenges, and strategic direction to leadership team and other cross functional stakeholders.

  • Track and report on key performance indicators, including system uptime, transaction throughput, and incident resolution metrics.

  • Identify opportunities for improvement in systems, processes, and team productivity, presenting recommendations and action plans.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 4+ years in a leadership role

  • Proven track record of building and scaling enterprise-grade platforms, preferably in healthcare, pharmacy claims, or similar fields

  • Strong experience with processing claims, handling financial transactions, and integrating with external data sources and pharmacy systems.

  • Knowledge of healthcare standards such as NCPDP is a plus

  • Deep understanding of compliance, privacy, and security requirements for healthcare data.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., Golang, Python, .NET) and frameworks, with a focus on backend and data processing systems.

  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms and microservices architecture.

  • Experience with data management and ETL processes, especially for real-time and high-volume transaction systems.

Leadership & Communication

  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with experience in building and leading high-performing engineering teams.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical and business challenges.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and present to executive leadership.
