Scope of Position

The Exercise Specialist is a key contributor in the success of the Health Club with responsibilities in both our fitness and membership departments. As a Wave Health & Fitness representative who directly interacts with guests and members frequently on an individual and personal basis, your friendly, professional, and enthusiastic approach will enhance the value of our service.

To succeed, you must be fitness-minded, passionate, able to anticipate member and hotel guest needs, and respond professionally with a solution driven mindset to any challenges or issues that arise. Becoming familiar with the membership of the club and knowing their fitness goals and interests will allow you to advise on the services and programming in the club. The Exercise Specialist will report directly to the Health Club Manager.

Schedule Requirements

The Exercise Specialist will be required to work a varied schedule depending on business volume. This can include evenings and weekend coverage

Key Responsibilities (Fitness)

  • Provide initial consultations to prospective clients informing them of the benefits of personal training and reviewing their reasons/goals for hiring a Trainer.
  • Instruct Group Exercise Classes as well as one-on-one and small group personal training sessions
  • Conduct fitness evaluations for new clients including body fat, weight, blood pressure, resting heart rate, circumference, medical history review and a review of the client's goals.
  • Develop a program specifically tailored to the client's goals, physical limitations, medical history, and fitness evaluation results.
  • Keep track of client's session status and sell new packages as necessary.
  • Monitor, engage and instruct participants in the fitness center on safe and effective use of cardiovascular, flexibility, and strength training equipment within the facility.

Key Responsibilities (Membership)

  • Greet hotel guests, club members and spa clientele; facilitate sign-in and touring procedures, and direct customers to appropriate areas of the club.
  • Maintain and communicate to our guests and prospects a thorough knowledge of the Health Club's facilities, products, and spa services.
  • Answer phones, direct calls, book and confirm appointments.
  • Professionally present and sell Health Club products and services.
  • Provide in-depth facility tours as needed
  • Document and post sales transactions, process payments and credits, and maintain cash bank.
  • Maintain the orderliness, cleanliness, and guest supplies of the locker rooms.
  • Attend the fitness room as needed, demonstrating equipment, and answering general questions for guests and members.
  • Responsible for practicing, managing, and promoting our Mission and Values so that it becomes an intricate part of the everyday operation.
  • Completes any duties or projects assigned by the Health Club Manager.

Required Job Knowledge and Skills

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Nationally accredited personal training certification required
  • CPR and First Aid certification required
  • Minimum 1-2 years of personal training experience
  • Strong customer service and communication skills required
  • Healthy, fitness-minded, knowledgeable, and comfortable with the fitness and wellness environment
  • Strong organizational skills, basic computer experience and the ability to multi-task
