National Grid is seeking a highly skilled Lead Engineer to support the Power Engineering Department (PED) in designing, building, and operating efficient energy systems for the 21st century digital economy.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing engineered solutions for steam and combustion turbine units, working closely with power plant and support services personnel during engineering and construction phases of specific projects. They will also be actively involved in new project development, including utility scale battery storage, solar, and simple cycle combustion turbine generators.
PED Engineers have project ownership from inception through operation and are empowered to develop and implement solutions on a wide range of Generation and Corporate initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:- Inspect and evaluate power boilers, pressure vessels, process tanks, high energy piping systems, and mechanical components.
- Assess and implement improvements to existing steam and combustion turbine units as part of capital improvement and maintenance processes.
- Perform mechanical root cause failure analysis and formulate corrective actions.
- Manage condition assessment inspections of high energy piping boiler components, pressure vessels, and mechanical equipment.
- 10-15 years of related power plant or equivalent experience.
- Experience inspecting piping and structural installation work.
- Knowledge or experience with welding technology and preparing repair welding procedures.
- Knowledge of power station codes and standards (National Board Codes, ASME Section I, V, VIII, IX and B31.1; API 650, 653).
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or materials engineering required.
- NYS Professional Engineer Certification.
