Job Description

Overview:

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, configuration, implementation, testing, and transition to steady state support of infrastructure components, including network, telecommunication, server, storage, and software across the enterprise. The role involves collaboration with peer engineering teams to establish best practices, processes, standards, and configuration management. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will evaluate vendor-supplied hardware, software, and components for fit and performance, and make recommendations to IT management. This individual is expected to modify and debug vendor-supplied utilities and packages, maintain technical documentation, diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, and provide escalation support to administrators. The position demands a solutions-oriented approach, ensuring stability, security, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • General Responsibilities:
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Coach and mentor other team members.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend network-related software and hardware products.
  • Perform capacity and resource planning for network systems.
  • Assess network risks and develop contingency plans.
  • Provide input for supplier management and telecommunications/network-related vendor service agreements.
  • Install, configure, and maintain telecommunications and network systems (hardware and software).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical communications and network issues (Tier 2 support).
  • Stay updated on telecommunications, networks, and network-related technologies.
  • Act as a technical resource for infrastructure initiatives requiring telecommunications or network expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Technical degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:
  • 5+ years of work experience in an Infrastructure or technical function.
  • Experience in telecommunications and networking environments, security, storage, server, and other infrastructure technologies.
  • Familiarity with ITIL concepts.

Skills:

  • Design, implementation, configuration, tuning, and optimization of infrastructure technologies.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to think outside the box.
  • Ability to create, read, analyze, and interpret technical diagrams and written procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Teamwork and collaboration across multiple functional areas.
  • Attention to detail and holistic thinking.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in an Infrastructure engineering role.
  • ITIL Foundation certified.

Specialized Skills and Technologies:

  • Experience with telecommunications and networking environments.
  • Understanding of hardware and software dependencies.
  • Capability to mentor and develop others within the team.
