Job Description: We are seeking a Mid-Career Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Bend, Oregon. The ideal candidate will collaborate with our multidisciplinary team to engage in mechanical, systems, and design engineering tailored to the utility aviation sector. Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing innovative concepts for products and complex systems.
  • Designing in compliance with industry-specific standards.
  • Analyzing products for performance enhancement and cost reduction.
  • Facilitating manufacturing processes and ensuring smooth production transitions.

The successful candidate will be based on-site in Bend, OR, and will work closely with the entire Kawak Aviation team.


Basic Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, including design, analysis, and systems integration.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling.
  • Expertise in ASME Y14.00 engineering drawing practices and related standards.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively within team settings.
  • Capability to work independently and take initiative in a dynamic environment.
  • Versatility in handling complex assignments with confidence through ambiguity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with mechanical design, material selection, stress analysis, and technical documentation.


Strongly Desired Skills:

  • Experience with mechanical assemblies for aircraft systems.
  • Advanced skills in SolidWorks (3+ years preferred), including PDM experience.
  • Experience in electromechanical design and integration.
  • Demonstrated experience with aircraft hardware design, testing, and integration.
  • Familiarity with aircraft sheet metal design and standards.
  • Experience in fluid dynamics and analysis.
  • Experience designing firefighting water tanks and supporting electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with hydraulic system design and controls.
