ShermansTravel Media seeks an experienced Editorial Director / Executive Editor to lead content strategy across ShermansTravel.com and SmartLuxury.com. This role requires deep knowledge of global destinations, travel brands, and trends, ensuring our brand voice remains consistent and authoritative. The editorial lead will also have strong influence over the online user experience, contributing to the forward vision of the websites and product roadmap.

As part of the senior leadership team, the Editorial Director / Executive Editor informs stakeholders about STM’s content strategy and reader data, also serving as a brand ambassador.


Responsibilities:

  • Oversees all editorial content, including articles, social posts, videos, and branded content
  • Develops and executes the content calendar, refining editorial strategies and measuring performance metrics
  • Leads the STM team to align content with reader interests and industry trends. Ensures that our readers value our point of view and are impressed by both our tone and authority
  • Acts as a brand ambassador at industry events and maintain relationships with key verticals (tourism boards, hotel brands, airlines, etc.)
  • Contributes to the vision and direction of the next evolution of ShermansTravel.com and SmartLuxury.com
  • Utilizes advanced technologies such as customized chatbots in content strategies as we seek to deepen reader engagement


Key Tasks:

  • Ensures editorial voice consistency across platforms
  • Hires writers appropriate for all destinations and ensures content is of high quality tone and advice
  • Drives reader engagement and voices strong opinions on direction of online user experience (striving for site stickiness)
  • Manages editorial and freelance budgets
  • Handles inbound pitches, press releases, and press trips; seeks outbound press opportunities aligned to business content needs
  • Grows site traffic through SEO, partnerships, and social strategies. Grows site stickiness by ensuring all content is valued by users
  • Collaborates with marketing and email teams to ensure that editorial integrity and voice is consistent in all campaigns to deliver optimal engagement across platforms and in materials and communications that we disseminate to the industry
  • Owns the CMS platform, ensuring publishing functionality and recommendation enhancements


Qualifications:

  • 7+ years in editorial/content management in travel media, with senior-level experience
  • Extensive industry contacts with destination experts who can write on various topics to both a general and luxury travel audience
  • Online/digital experience required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, English, or related field
  • Interest in and enthusiasm to help guide site user experience and product roadmap development
  • Strong editing, writing, and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with AI and LLMs to be leveraged in appropriate ways for our content development
  • Experience with CMS and web analytics tools
  • Team-oriented and proactive problem solver
  • Preferred: deep relationships with travel specialists and/or advisors across global destinations
  • Independent work ethic and self-driven to take initiative
