Accountabilities Independently perform respiratory therapy procedures as per physician orders and departmental guidelines - 20% Obtain and accurately analyze blood gas samples, reporting results - 10% Initiate, monitor, and manage various mechanical ventilation therapies - 20% Manage all airway types and associated equipment - 10% Document and charge for respiratory care procedures accurately while providing education to patients and families - 10% Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, including presenting reports and recommendations - 10% Adhere to infection control and quality initiatives, ensuring proper cleaning and sterilization of equipment - 10% Practice stewardship of resources, including supplies and time - 10% Supervisory/Management Responsibility This is a non-management role reporting to a supervisor or manager. Minimum Requirements Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program or eligibility for licensure in South Carolina, or be a senior student on track to graduate in three months. Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses Must hold a valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in South Carolina or be eligible for licensure. BLS certification required. NBRC credentials must be maintained. Those hired before June 2016 may be Certified Respiratory Therapists. Candidates hired after June 2016 must pass the Therapist Multiple Choice Exam at the Registered Therapist cut score and the Clinical Simulation Exam within six months of graduation; failure to pass will result in termination. NRP and PALS certifications required for independent work in the NICU and PICU at the Children's Hospital.
