Accountabilities

• Independently conduct respiratory therapy procedures in line with physician orders, departmental policies, and established guidelines. - 20%
• Capable of obtaining, analyzing, and reporting blood gas results from all sites. - 10%
• Initiate and manage various types of mechanical ventilation for patients. - 20%
• Effectively manage all types of airways and equipment involved. - 10%
• Accurately document and charge for all respiratory care procedures and provide education to patients and families. - 10%
• Communicate effectively with all healthcare team members, providing thorough reports and recommendations as necessary. - 10%
• Adhere to infection control protocols and quality initiatives, ensuring proper cleaning and disinfection of equipment. - 10%
• Utilize resources judiciously, including supplies and time. - 10%

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

This role does not include management responsibilities and will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program, eligible for licensure in South Carolina, or a senior student expected to graduate within three months.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

Must hold a South Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner license or be eligible for one. BLS certification is required. Maintain NBRC credentials. Employees hired prior to June 2016 may be Certified Respiratory Therapists.

New hires from June 2016 onward must pass the Therapist Multiple Choice Exam with a Registered Therapist cut score and take the Clinical Simulation Exam within six months post-graduation. Failure to pass the Clinical Simulation Exam will result in termination.

NRP and PALS certification required for work in Children's Hospital, particularly in NICU and PICU.
