Safety Coordinator

JOB PURPOSE:
Assist with the deployment of compliance, safety, and quality department initiatives. Set clear expectations for safety and quality performance, and ensure field personnel are in compliance. Develop credibility among work crews as a safety, quality and compliance expert, and regularly coach the crews in meeting those high expectations and creating win/win situations.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform safety and quality inspections on regional work crews.
- Meet expectations of safety and quality inspections as set by the department directors.
- Verify and report status of field personnel regarding their adherence to safety and quality procedures and policies.
- Report and investigate incidents.
- Perform root-cause analysis on any serious incidents; find preventive measures, and communicate the results to the management team.
- Perform detailed investigations on any incident that results in a task procedure departure, violation or failure.
- Work closely with department directors to discuss progress and issues specific to the area.
- Coordinate monthly safety meetings in conjunction with area management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Certifications
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Technical or post-secondary education in related field.
Experience
Required: 5 years’ construction safety or gas utility work.
Preferred: Additional 1+ year related experience in a safety or quality role.
Functional / Technical Competency Requirements:
Required: Knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Experience creating Excel spreadsheets, sorting data, formatting, and using basic formulas. Use an iPhone app to record and report worksite information. Leadership, organization and logical thinking. Set clear expectations for safety and quality performance. Use coaching techniques to help employees meet expectations. Good oral communication, especially the ability to clearly and directly speak to a group. Self-motivated, proactive. Plan and execute activities to meet established goals. Day travel from jobsite to jobsite; up to 25% overnight travel is possible.
Preferred: Safety or quality auditing; root-cause analysis; training and coaching skills. Accomplish objectives through directing others. Plan and execute own activities designed to meet established expectations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist in the deployment of and validation of company compliance to safety and quality procedures. This will require traveling from jobsite to jobsite and working safely in a construction zone. Generate reports on a computer and submit to the appropriate people. Participate in all required training. While held accountable for expectations, this person will develop their own work schedule designed to meet those expectations. Must be willing and able to deviate from the planned schedule to accommodate issues requiring immediate attention.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee is infrequently required to lift up to 50 pounds.
Position will require day travel and some overnight travel.
