TIG’s work is supported by regional collaborations with The Nature Conservancy, who serves as Conservation Adviser to TIG’s core timberland strategy in the U.S.; and Conservation International, who serves as Impact Adviser to TIG’s reforestation strategy in Latin America.


Position Overview:

TIG seeks a Portfolio Manager to join our team in New York, New York, or Seattle, Washington.

Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Offficer and Head, Impact Investment Management, the Portfolio Manager will play a critical role in the management of TIG’s existing investment portfolios, the development of new investment products and strategies, and innovating new ways to deliver on the massive potential of forests to mitigate climate change, halt and reverse biodiversity loss, and supporting equitable rural development.


Key responsibilities will include:


  • Represent investor interests through the full investment cycle, from investment sourcing, due diligence, acquisition, portfolio construction, active management, and exit.
  • Overall responsibility for the construction, financial management, operation, and financial performance of investment portfolios.
  • Regular communication with clients regarding portfolio operations and performance; maintain positive, open, high-trust relationships with current and propsective clients.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports for clients and other stakeholders of portfolio operations, financial perfomance, and sustainability.
  • Support for fundraising efforts for active strategies, including communicating investment strategy, process and opportunity to prospective investors.
  • Contribute to the development of new investment strategies and identification of new investment opportunities.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, environmental science, business, or a related field.
  • 10+ years relevant portfolio management, transaction structuring, or related investment management experience.
  • Prior experience in forestry, agriculture, or other real assets investment management.
  • Excellent Excel modelling and financial analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and an ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including investment committee members, clients, partners, and others.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team, to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and deliver against specific workplans and timelines.
  • A creative, entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to thrive in a meritocratic workplace.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Knowledge and Experience:

  • Prior investment management or forest management experience in Latin America.
  • Forest carbon accounting, forest carbon offset methodologies, forest carbon policy.
  • Portuguese or Spanish language ability.


Location:

Preference to fill this role in BTG’s New York or Seattle offices. Periodic travel within the US and internationally required.
