Position Summary

The Educational Director at the Redmond Academy is a key leadership role responsible for developing and overseeing the educational programs that complement the artistic vision of the organization. This position plays a crucial role in shaping the learning experiences for young participants, ensuring a holistic and enriching environment that fosters both artistic and personal growth. Collaborating closely with the Artistic Director, the Educational Director will contribute to the overall success and impact of the youth musical theatre programs.


This is a parttime role expected to be between 20-30 hours per week. This is an onsite role.


Principal Responsibilities

Curriculum Development:

  • Design and implement comprehensive and age-appropriate educational curricula for youth participants.
  • Develop detailed outlines for each class, including goals, outcomes, and a curriculum plan.
  • Ensure that educational programs align with the artistic goals and objectives of the organization.
  • Communicate class expectations and objectives to teachers.
  • Evaluate and continually improve the effectiveness of educational initiatives.

Class/Camp Operations:

  • Expected to be onsite 15 hours per week during hours when classes and camps are in session. The Educational Director must work out a consistent schedule with the Artistic Director. 
  • Partner with the Business Manager to plan the class or camp schedule in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of educational programs, including scheduling, staffing, and participant engagement. Be available on-site to address immediate needs.
  • Act as a resource for staff members by providing guidance when needed. 
  • Fill and/or find replacement teaching staff to cover an absence due to illness or other reasons ensuring smooth class or camp operations. Maintain a list of substitutes.
  • Ensure facilities are opened and closed in a timely manner for classes and camps. Coordinate facility access with support staff.
  • Ensure technical and class equipment is available and operational.
  • Maintain an inventory of necessary supplies for each class/camp. Coordinate with administrative staff to ensure timely procurement of supplies.

Faculty and Staff Development:

  • Recruit, train, and support a team of qualified instructors and educational staff. Assess candidates based on their qualification, experience, and alignment with the organization’s values. Collaborate with other Academy team members to make final hiring decisions. Get all hiring decisions approved by the Artistic Director.
  • Ensure all correct paperwork is complete before staff begins working at Academy.
  • Partner with the Business Manager to conduct orientations sessions to ensure that new hires are familiar with company policies and procedures.
  • Provide ongoing constructive feedback and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills. Schedule regular in-person sessions to support and educate teachers.
  • Provide training on teaching techniques, curriculum updates, and other relevant topics.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of teachers’ performance.

Assessment and Reporting:

  • Work with the Business Manager to implement assessment tools to measure the impact and success of educational programs.
  • Prepare regular reports for the Artistic Director and board of directors on program outcomes and areas for improvement.

Collaboration with Artistic Director and Business Manager:

  • Work closely with the Artistic Director to ensure seamless integration between artistic and educational objectives. 
  • Establish processes for regular updates to the Artistic Director and other leadership staff. This may include weekly emails, regular meetings, or both.
  • Collaborate on the development of comprehensive youth development strategies.
  • Actively support musical productions organized by the Academy.


Qualifications

Artistic Expertise:

  • Extensive experience in directing and producing youth musical theatre productions.
  • Strong understanding of theatrical production elements, including staging, choreography, music, and the technical aspects of production.

Pedagogical Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development.
  • Knowledge of best practices in arts education and experiential learning.

Leadership and Communication:

  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with staff, parents, and community partners.

Passion for Youth Development:

  • Genuine passion for nurturing the artistic and personal growth of young participants.
  • Understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities associated with youth theatre education.


Education

•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Theatre Education, or a related field.

•Previous experience in developing and managing educational programs, preferably in the arts or theatre.
