Des Moines, United States Talus Renewables Full time

About Talus

Talus’ mission is to realize humanity’s sustainable future by improving access to food and fuel for all. We do this by producing green ammonia -- the building block for all synthetic fertilizers -- from renewable electricity, water, and air.

Today, we’re building a distributed network of modular green ammonia systems across the world. We produce reliable, carbon-free ammonia for our partners at a fraction of the current market price. We offer fertilizer on tap, on farm, at half the price. Our first system is in Kenya.

In the future, our platform will improve access to locally produced renewable energy and alternative fuels in communities around the world.

Controls Commissioning Technician

We are hiring a Controls Commissioning Technician for a key position on our team. We’re looking for someone who has experience both in industrial automation and electrical installation and commissioning. You will be accountable to:

  • Successfully installation and commission the electrical system on our modular green ammonia systems

General responsibilities include:

  • Own instrument configuration: Proficient in configuring, troubleshooting, and integrating various instrumentation devices such as sensors, valves, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and thermocouples with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Execute and improve IO checkout procedures: Improve the Talus IO checkout procedures and associated documentation to streamline processes and ensure reliability.
  • Execute and improve pre-commissioning procedures: Lead efforts to refine and improve Talus pre-commissioning procedures to enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Read, update, improve electrical panel drawings: Take responsibility for maintaining and enhancing Talus electrical panel drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing: as needed as processes are improved.
  • As needed, help with maintenance: supported with others.

We expect most of the below (if you don't have all, we still encourage you to reach out):

Strong commitment to the mission

Strong technical skills:

  • Instrument configuration: a world-class expert.
  • Electrical Panel Expertise: Skilled in reading, interpreting, and working with electrical panel drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Electrical Circuit Knowledge: Strong understanding of both basic and advanced electrical circuit components, including breakers, relays, motor contactors, and overloads.
  • Industrial Automation Protocols: Familiar with industrial automation communication protocols such as Modbus TCP and others.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite: Competent in using Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, data analysis, and reporting.

Clear evidence of being comfortable with extensive travel, including driver's license

Bonus points for the below (definitely not required):

  • HMI/SCADA Software: Experienced in working with Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software.
  • Industrial Process Experience: Experience working in an industrial process plant or similar setting, providing practical knowledge of process systems.
