Unit Secretary, Clinical Specialty Admin SupportFull Time, 72 Hours Per Pay Period, Variable ShiftsPosition Summary:Provide clerical and secretarial services to the nursing unit assigned.With more than 30 specialties from Cardiology and Neurosurgery to Orthopedics and Vascular care, Methodist Medical Center was one of the first hospitals in East Tennessee to offer cutting-edge treatments and technologies that benefit people with life-threatening aneurysms, severely damaged knee, hip and shoulder joints, sudden heart failure, and non-healing wounds.283 licensed beds25 ICU beds12 intermediate care beds38 emergency suites2 cath labs8 LDRP suitesOver 250 active and courtesy physiciansOver 800 employeesRecruiter: Rachel Dudek-Fleming || rdudek@CovHlth.com || 865-374-5372ResponsibilitiesCarries out the secretarial and clerical duties necessary for the efficient functioning of the nursing unit assigned.Communicates patient requests promptly to the nursing staff;Orders and charges for supplies and equipment;Schedules procedures and examinations with appropriate departments;Notifies consults when ordered (physicians, classes, etc.);Maintains the patient record and efficiently operates the computer system;Processes patient classification data either manually or via computer.Removes medications from the delivery system and promptly gives to the appropriate nursing staff;Other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation/Knowledge/Skills:Applicants who have either 1) successfully completed a unit secretary (HUC) course, or 2) have a minimum of one year recent unit secretary (HUC) experience in a hospital setting, will be given preference. As an alternative to the aforementioned preferences, a HUC must successfully complete a Health Unit Coordinator Curriculum as assigned by the Employer within two weeks of hire as a HUC. Must be able to read with comprehension and write legibly. Must be proficient in use of proper grammar. Must have knowledge of:Medical terminologyHospital policies and proceduresInfection controlFire and safety regulationsExperience:Secretarial or clerical experience is desired. Previous hospital experience is desired. One year experience required.Licensure Certification:Certification in basic life support (CPR) may be required when the unit secretary works in a department where he/she is subject to assignment as a first responder to a cardiopulmonary arrest victim.
