Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Technician with expertise in commissioning, start-ups, and a strong background in testing relays, apparatus, transformers, breakers, and switch gears. Our client is a specialist in a variety of field services and has been particularly successful in the last year and is now looking to grow a new team of technicians. This role will be particularly suited for someone who is aiming to become NETA accredited.


This role is based in Houston and will require some travel all within the Greater Houston area.


Responsibilities:

  • Execute commissioning procedures and start-ups for electrical systems, ensuring all equipment functions correctly and meets operational standards.
  • Perform comprehensive testing and calibration of relays to ensure proper operation and compliance with technical specifications.
  • Conduct detailed testing on electrical apparatus to verify performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Test transformers, including insulation resistance and power factor tests, to assess condition and ensure safe operation.
  • Test and evaluate breakers and switch gears for functionality, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of testing procedures, results, and recommendations for improvements or repairs.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues identified during testing and commissioning, providing solutions to ensure optimal performance.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and industry regulations during testing and commissioning processes.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • A minimum of 3 years working on medium-high voltage projects and a Associates or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Maintenance, or a related field OR 5+ years hands on experience.
  • Proven experience in commissioning and start-ups, with a strong background in testing electrical components such as relays, apparatus, transformers, breakers, and switch gears.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical testing procedures, standards, and best practices, relevant certificates (NETA, NICET etc) are advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and address technical issues effectively.
  • Meticulous in performing tests, recording results, and ensuring compliance with specifications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for documenting results and interacting with team members and clients.
