Job description

POSITION SCOPE

- Assist in oversight of packing to ensure quality is maintained throughout the packing season

- Reporting on all packing trends – Quality, inventory, packing instructions, and marketing initiatives.

- Report on aged inventory and inspect packed fruit to ensure quality standards are adhered to through the supply chain

- Assist in onboarding/training of new packers

- Assist in the selection of grower lots for exports, ensuring grade requirements are met

- Assist in orchard visitations, fruit measurement, mapping, and risk assessment evaluations


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Quality/Packing Management

· Assist Operations Manager with the day-to-day oversight of packing to ensure T&G grade standards are maintained throughout packing season

· Assist in the oversight of harvest to ensure T&G harvest parameters are followed

· Identify lots for export/domestic packing and work with packers to ensure an optimal packing plan to meet demand

· Work with EPI staff and packing partners to optimize storage plans based on size quality and sales plans

· Oversight & Analytics of packing instructions trends

· Tracking & Analytics of all repack incidence

· Data collection/reporting on fruit quality

· Ensure packaging is consistent with brand requirements and all market access and requirement documentation/labelling is consistent and accurate, including export qualifications required

· Oversee import packing and conversions across EPI program partners

Continuous Improvement/R&D

· Support implementation of regional R&D projects to improve the quality and production of program varieties both internally and with third parties.

· Support EPI Operations Manager, grower partners and third-party researchers conduct field trials throughout the growing season. This includes, but not limited to, research focused on: fruit sizing, fruit thinning and crop load, fruit quality improvement and food safety

· Work with EPI team, program packers and third-party researchers to develop and execute post-harvest trials aimed at optimizing storage protocols and improving fruit quality


Reporting

· Maintain detailed records on important packing information

· Develop reports and presentations for EPI staff and partners to share findings


Relationship Management

· Actively support the development of a strong and cohesive working relationship within the EPI business.


PERSON SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Essential:

Understanding of tree fruit industry, including postharvest and/or packing production management

· Self-motivated problem solver that can identify opportunities to improve quality and productivity of Enza varieties

· Excellent organizational and record keeping skills with high attention to detail

· Capable of presenting research findings clearly orally and in writing

· Valid driver’s license

Desirable:

· Strong analytical skills, including the ability to conduct statistical analysis


Experience

Essential:

· Experience in tree fruit industry, including postharvest or production packing line experience

Desirable:

· Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, agriculture, agronomy or related field, or equivalent work experience


Business/Technical Skills

Essential:

· Strong written and numerical skills

· Experience in using technology

· Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
