Deputy Director (Business Operations Supervisor 2)The Oregon Board of Accountancy is looking for an experienced, forward-thinking Deputy Director to lead our business operations, support our mission to protect the public, and serve as the right hand to the Executive Director.The Oregon Board of Accountancy licenses and regulates over 8,000 Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), Public Accountants (PAs), municipal auditors, and 900+ public accounting firms. Our mission is to protect Oregon consumers by ensuring that only qualified, competent professionals practice public accountancy in compliance with established standards and rules. We are a self-funded agency with a biennial budget of $4.3 million, supported by licensing fees.As Deputy Director, you'll take the lead on the day-to-day operations of the agency. You'll oversee licensing operations, financial management, performance tracking, legislative implementation, and more, freeing the Executive Director to focus on external relations, CPA pipeline support and strategic outreach. You'll also serve as Acting Executive Director in the Director's absence, making this a critical leadership role with wide-reaching impact.Typical responsibilities include:Leading all business operations of the Board and coordinating across licensing and compliance teams.Serving as Deputy Director and assuming Executive Director duties when needed.Collaborating with state agencies, industry organizations, and national boards.Overseeing budget planning, financial controls, procurement, and contract management.Supervising and coaching staff; supporting performance management and development.Ensuring alignment with the Board's strategic goals, DEI commitments, and key performance measures.Acting as the agency's communications leadmanaging the website, social media, and external messaging.Directing legislative and rulemaking processes, acting as the Board's Rules Coordinator.Minimum qualifications include four years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience; or one year of related experience and a bachelor's degree in a related field. Related experience must include working with professional licensing and/or regulatory boards.We are looking for candidates who bring demonstrated leadership in operations, policy implementation, and team management; excellent communication skillsboth written and verbaland strong analytical abilities; knowledge of state budgeting, procurement, and regulatory processes (preferred); a collaborative and proactive approach, with a strong commitment to public service; expertise in management principles, including planning, directing, and resource allocation; familiarity with state systems and practices in budgeting, HR, labor relations, and business services; ability to interpret and apply laws and administrative rules governing Board operations; and a high level of professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to lead within a mission-driven agency.You'll play a key role in a small, dedicated team where your contributions are visible and meaningful.
