Job Summary

The Physicist is responsible for participating in consultations with physicians, dosimetry, and therapy colleagues to support treatment setup, planning, delivery, and verification. Additional responsibilities include investigating equipment performance and quality assurance (QA), quality control in imaging systems, designing radiation installations, and managing radiation hazards. The Physicist is expected to uphold and reinforce the company's core values to help achieve its mission and vision.

Job Responsibilities: Participate in developing performance specifications for all radiation-producing machines and sources, including acceptance testing and commissioning. Conduct initial and ongoing QA, such as mechanical and imaging calibration, of radiation-producing linear accelerators (linacs) and radioactive sources (HDR). Assist the Chief Clinical Medical Physicist in developing and maintaining a comprehensive Quality Management Program (QMP) for imaging, treatment modalities, dose measurement, and computational equipment/software. Oversee and evaluate repair and maintenance work performed by field service engineers before releasing treatment units for patient use. Assist in maintaining and calibrating all instrumentation required for QA and the measurement of dose from radiation-producing machines. Contribute to the implementation of the radiation safety program. Calculate radiation shielding requirements for new or renovated treatment rooms, radioactive source storage and handling facilities, and brachytherapy patient rooms. Perform Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) dose verifications and assist in treatment planning when requested by physicians. Ensure the accuracy of treatment unit parameters and settings used for patient treatments, including the correct transfer of parameters between the simulator, treatment plan, and treatment unit. Conduct periodic reviews of patient charts. Participate in patient discussion conferences and provide ongoing education to the radiation oncology staff. Play a key role in developing systems and policies, ensuring consistency between plans and execution, and delegating responsibilities to trained personnel. Provide education and training on QA, radiation safety, QMP, and regulatory compliance for radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists, nurses, management, and other technical staff. Qualifications: Master’s Degree from an accredited medical physics program. 0-2 years of experience in medical physics. Experience with High Dose Rate (HDR) and Low Dose Rate (LDR) procedures preferred. Must be qualified to be on the state of New Mexico radioactive materials license. About the Company:
