Chief Of StaffReporting to the Chancellor, the Chief of Staff is responsible for overseeing and coordinating a variety of complex and sensitive assignments that have a collegewide impact and serves as the Chancellor's liaison to internal and external stakeholders, as assigned. This position is responsible for the administrative coordination of the Chancellor's Office and for policy development and recommendation, for the collegewide coordination of public information, community and government relations; legislative activities; relations with and support of the Board of Trustees.Job duties include providing oversight and follow-up on all materials for the Board of Trustees, disseminating information about the College to employees, the news media, and the community, and serving as the official College spokesperson to news media representatives on College issues. Additionally, the Chief of Staff supports the Chancellor in developing relationships with the community and all levels of government to secure support which promotes the goals and objectives of the College.The Chief of Staff also monitors state and federal legislation which is of concern to higher education and develops position statements for consideration by the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees. This position coordinates special projects requiring in-depth analysis and supports the development of collegewide policies in response to state and federal law, Board action, and labor contracts.The Chief of Staff creatively develops solutions to a wide range of problems, utilizing tact and foresight to identify and resolve potential situations before they arise. Additionally, this position performs routine tasks for the Chancellor, arranges collegewide special events and seminars, and monitors the activities and responsibilities of the Office of the Chancellor.The Chief of Staff also develops and maintains liaison between the Chancellor and other College Office units, supports an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive, and anti-racist practices, and supervises Chancellor's Office support staff.Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or an acceptable equivalent of education and experience, at least three years of full-time managerial experience related to the administrative assignment, experience working with media, and experience working with elected officials and their staffs. Desirable qualifications include the ability to develop positive and effective working relationships, skill in respectful and sensitive communication, knowledge of the philosophy, mission, and goals of the community college, and knowledge of public policy issues as they relate to education.Benefits include a competitive salary range, health insurance plan, retirement system, medical plans, dental, vision, Basic Life and AD&D insurance, Flexible Spending Account, commuter benefits, and voluntary supplemental plans.
